Staying downtown next weekend and am looking for new breweries(or pubs with good local tap lists) within walking distance. Been to Yale and Granville. Walked the "Gastown?" area but didn't stop anywhere. Any threads or advice would be much appreciated.

Walking distance from Gastown is the Alibi Room, one of the best, if not the best, craft bars in the city. 50 taps with lots of locals and regional options, check it out.

a quick skytrain ride to alot of places from there too. Just get on at Granville ( stop is under the bay at granville and w.georgia ) and go two stops east to main street, and a 10 minute walk to Craft or Tap and Barrel in olympic village. If you go one more stop to commercial drive, there's St.Augustines just around the corner from the stop which has an awesome taplist.

Also if you like Belgian sytles, Chambar is worth a look at Beatty and Dunsmuir. Biercraft also ( both locations have excellent belgian selections ) are at Commercial and William street, and the other at Cambie and West 16th.

Everywhere mentioned above is pretty accessible with transit, or even a fairly inexpensive cab ride.

Brassneck is really only about 20-30 min walk from Downtown, same for 33 Acres. Both 'new' breweries/tasting rooms if you haven't been here for awhile. Green Leaf in North Van is a few steps from the Sea Bus station, about 15-20 mins travel time at most.

Tap & Barrel also has a new Convention Centre location which would have lots of local taps.

You have to either go to Alibi or St. Augustines if you want to sample the best BC beers (and a host of others). Everywhere else is optional, but make the time to go to one of these two (St Aug's is 10 minutes by skytrain, while Alibi is a quick walk from DT).

The new breweries tasting rooms which have popped up over the past couple years are mostly a bit too far east to walk to from DT, though aren't really that far - much like going to Belmont Station from DT Portland.

Too far to walk? Depends how many beers you've already had, maybe it would even be a good thing  Belmont Station (5.3km) is a way further hike than Brassneck (2.5km) compared to downtown in each city.

Here's a fun loop that would give a good afternoon: Tap & Barrel Olympic Village, 33 Acres, Brassneck, London Pub, Alibi Room, then back to Granville Room a few steps from your hotel to finish it off.

Just did the Alibi room. Tried beers from: Four Winds(Zephyrus and Triplicity),Parallel 49(Defibrillator and Black Hops),Lighthouse (Siren),Persephone (Double IPA),and Townsite (Cardena). Siren from Lighthouse and Persephone's LTD Imperial IPA were my favorite's. Really good spot despite the hour wait.Food was solid and the staff really knew their stuff. Thanks for the options. Also had dinner at Yaletown. Brick and Beam is good and had their Scottish Wee on Cask, which was just okay. Nice stuff Vancouver!
