The $8 to $10 a glass sentiment I can understand a bit, but the other comment is a bit more difficult to discern. Is this his way of saying that he's a hard corer PBR/Rainer Ale/Montucky drinker?
Floodland bottles average $30 each, so I didn't even blink at the pour prices. Adam has a tiny operation and is driving all over the state for local produce, it's not cheap.
You know that and I know that, but my guess is that most of the Seattle Times readership probably doesn't know that. I personally don't think the pricing is unreasonable, but I can see how a lot of folks unfamiliar with Floodland beers might be put off by that kind of pricing (especially if you happen to be a PBR/Ranier Ale/Montucky kind of guy).
Almost any pour of any beer at the Masonry any day of the week is gonna be $8. (But the readers probably don't know that, either.)
Hey, question. When Chris Miller left Snipes, a dude named Chad took over. Chad, within the last couple years has opened his own brewery, either in or near Yakima. What is the name of his brewery? I'm on my phone and didn't feel like scrolling through the list here.
As of yesterday afternoon, the whole Foods in Bellingham had what is likely one of the last kegs of Puyallup River Brewing's beers on tap, Hazey's Comet. If you feel the need to tick.
I have heard a few people in the Thurston county region are sitting on at least a few kegs of Puyallup River.
I don't remember them ever doing a barrel aged beer. I liked Puyallup River but lets not kid ourselves into thinking their beer is anything super special that you need to go out of your way to try before it's gone.
Looks like Illuminati Brewing in Bellingham is closing on Saturday. I only got to visit once since moving here but liked the beer and the space. Bummer.
Yup, heard this today. For the record, this is the "new" version of Illuminati. Under original ownership, they were both a winery and brewery. Under current ownership they were just a brewery, but had added a kitchen. Their biggest hurdle was likely the location. Who is gonna go to the industrial neighborhood at 8pm?
Stemma quietly opened over the weekend. Website hasn't been updated yet though. Haven't swung by yet, maybe later in the week.
As mentioned in another thread, I swung by Stemma yesterday. Nice space that still needs some finishing touches. 4 beers on, all solidly average, but they'll improve over time. They've got a nitro stout coming on by the weekend. They'll be holding a grand opening party this coming Saturday.
Drove by Melvin the other day and saw New Owner sign. Anyone heard anything about it? Can't help but be curious, after the shit show last year.
I haven't been by lately, but these rumors have kept bubbling up over the last 6-9 months. They were always dead, maybe they've finally pulled the plug?
Harmon is ceasing brewing operations, but keeping the restaurants open. Looking for a contract brewery to partner with. Via Kendall: http://www.washingtonbeerblog.com/h...GzpUvqmi0_QKimzMdHYYvvY_eCxWA2hLjvr7fs2dFIJHE
Curious situation. I’d assumed the brewery part of a brewpub was the highest margin, still selling beer at $5-6/pint but no 3-tier middlemen.
A second brewery for Moses Lake? Also via Kendall: http://www.washingtonbeerblog.com/n...SJ5OwqeW3Xg9Uij1RFQllxE5c_x65E-60inmvvI1739rE
There was a time when Harmon was about the only game in town when it came to locally produced beer in Tacoma, and I think at one time beer sales did OK there. However, that's no longer the case (the thought never even crosses my mind to stop by whenever I'm in town), though I get the impression the restaurant is still doing fine (especially for lunch, they seem to always get a good crowd). The restaurant has a full bar, and again, the times I've walked by in the late afternoon and evening, it seemed like a lot of customers were drinking cocktails and mixed drinks. I hear what you're saying, but I'm assuming with lagging sales of onsite brewed beer, perhaps this change in direction makes sense. I'm pretty sure not many people in Tacoma are going to miss Harmon beer.
Here is a new update I just noticed from Kendall. New owner, soon to be new brewery it seems. http://www.washingtonbeerblog.com/big-changes-at-melvin-brewing-in-bellingham/
Looks like Pyramid is gonna have to cough up some coin: http://www.washingtonbeerblog.com/workers-reach-450000-settlement-with-pyramid-alehouse-in-seattle/
That's the last Pyramid beer I buy ever. Maybe I was a romantic back then but how did it come to this? Craft beer was meant to be the good guys..but we now see some of the elder statesmen of the industry acting like Victorian slave drivers. Sickening
Well, they've been part of CBA for quite some while now. I wish I could say I'm at least a teensy bit surprised.....
Like I have any problem spending my limited disposable income, Kendall drops this on me: http://www.washingtonbeerblog.com/f...lMSJSgwh29yIvOwuR2EQquKE64yUjWdjBtWQ4WAewZsBA The old New York Pizza location, next door to where the original Green Frog (RIP) was. But, in an entirely shocking, shocking I say!, development, it's right across the street from where a Seattle based invest firm bought up that side of the block, kicked out long-established business's, tore that section of town down below the ground, and is building cheap student housing. Yeah, lots of local politics. And, I will enjoy having a Flatstick. But, I hate that it's a product of a transient population. Also, really gonna hate having kids. Counterpoint, gonna love watching doggos fetch golf balls from broskis!
Sad news. One of my favorite Kitsap County breweries when I lived there is most likely soon going to be history. From their Facebook post. Sound Brewery restaurant will be closing with it's last day being Aug 24th. We will be open 2pm til 8:00pm for beer, wine, cider only today and next Sunday and 2:00pm til 9:00pm each day for the next couple of weeks. Feel free to bring in your own food. Thanks for your support over the last 3 years for the restaurant and almost a decade for the brewery. These last two weeks could be your last chance to get Sound beer. The brewery's fate remains unclear at this point but will likely be closing at the end of the month also. We've got plenty of most bottles, and a new dry hopped batch of Kanacitra cans available also! https://www.facebook.com/pg/soundbrewery/posts/?ref=page_internal
