A kind of esoteric question, but what are people's thoughts on wearing brewery/brewpub clothing at a brewery/brewpub (from the same brewery or another)? This is a question intended for any BA, not just breweriana people. My loose brewery/brewpub distinction comes from living in TX for the last 10 months.

For instance, I was once told by another BA not to wear a t-shirt from a brewpub when going there because I risked being confused as a staff member.

On the other hand, it's cool to wear a t-shirt from a brewery when visiting to show your support, right? How about wearing a t-shirt from a different brewery (e.g. wearing Stone shirt at SN)?
I'm (proudly) guilty of wearing a Hofbrau shirt at Guinness in Dublin.

I pretty much constantly wear beer shirts, but do try to avoid wearing the same shirt as the place I go to. Kind of like wearing a band shirt of the concert you're at. Don't want to be Mr. Super-Fan.

I wear brewery shirts when I'm away from work. I try not to wear a brewery shirt if I'm going to said brewery. Otherwise I see no problem with it (and sometimes it's an easy icebreaker with other BA's/ good beer enthusiasts).

I cannot understand the appeal of wearing branded apparel unless you're working there.

To borrow a line from the would-be classic "P.C.U.":

"You're gonna wear the shirt of the brewery you're going to? Don't be that guy!"

Seriously though, as long as you wear -something- who really gives a rip?

    Here's what I do.
I wear St. Louis Cardinals apparel to Denver Broncos games.
I wear Chicago Blackhawks apparel to L.A. Laker games.
I wear Levi's when I shop at the Gap.
I wear military cammies to beach parties.
    I wear a chef's hat to church.
I use my NPR tote bag at Whole Foods.
I dress up as a clown at work.
    The list goes on.

Not sure I understand the premise here. What's the big deal about wearing a brewery/pub shirt when you go there?

I use my Tractor Supply tote bags at Whole Foods, NPR would be for WalMart.

Friends of mine who work at breweries often wear shirts of other breweries while working (back of the house) or hanging out at their own breweries. Most craft breweries love other craft breweries. They don't see each other as rivals, and they don't frown on you wearing apparel of other breweries at their place. Quite the opposite actually, in my experience.

Then again, now that more and more craft breweries are canning , maybe it's about time for those to come back in style...

If you're worried about what the other person, or yourself is wearing, and not enjoying the reason you're there, (the beer), then it is time to reevaluate. It's not a fashion show, it's beer.

It's perfectly OK to wear a brewery shirt....anytime, anywhere. As long as you are prepared to answer any questions regarding that brewery's line-up of beers. Imagine the dismay with this interchange...
Hey man, nice Lagunitas shirt. How did you like the UnderCover Shut Down ale this year?

One of my local brew pubs sells a SHIT TON of T's, caps, and hoodies ( I often joke that when you move to Bellingham, Welcome Wagon issues a Boundary Bay T-shirt), and it's very rare to not see several folks wearing various gear. And the only problem with wearing a band shirt to the show is if you buy the shirt and put it on at the gig. If you have a shirt from a previous tour, wear that sucker with pride!
