I've been craving a tropical forward IPA since I had Deschutes Fresh Sqeezed. Looking for some good suggestions.

    Sculpin should be available there.

    That's completely citrus not tropical

New Belgium Rampant Imperial IPA, I get lots of grapefruit in that one.

Not only that, but citrus fruits grow in tropical climates.....making them tropical if you ask me.

I disagree. I get lots of mango and tropical fruit from fresh Sculpin. I don't think I'm alone either. Many reviews of Sculpin mention the word "tropical". http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/199/29619

Yellow rose - although IMO, a bit more citrusy ( grapefruit) than tropical(guava, papaya).

Never heard of the Tropical IPA before. I guess when I'm in the tropical mood I do a tropical drink.

By that logic, Community Mosaic would definitely be a contender. I haven't had it myself though, because I'm not a huge IPA-junkie. But I've heard very good things about it.

I second the motion for nominating Community's Mosaic. It is a wonderful IPA. Very tropical fruit forward.

If Community Mosaic was available in Austin I would buy it. Alot. Since that's not an option I keep hoping for more Victory Dirt Wolf.

Specs downtown carries it in Houston, but it seems to sell out quickly when they get in.

Wonder if Craft Pride in Austin has Community Mosaic. I haven't tried it but I am a tropical, citrus, whatever you want to call it IPA nut. I call them west coast IPAs, or Southern California style IPA. Where in Dallas has it? I can't wait to try it next time I'm there. I went to a place called LUCK that I would guess would have had it but I don't recall...

That said my list goes something like fresh Sculpin, fresh Union Jack, Live Oak Liberation is a sleeper IPA that I think fits the bill but it's hard to find. The Bombay IPA at the Draught House, when they brew it, has been crazy citrusy and awesome at times. Superliner at ABGB which is delicious has some citrus notes but I think it's mostly Simcoe so won't have quite as much as others.

My opinion is you pretty much have to go local and fresh to appreciate the tropical or citrus notes because otherwise they fade away too fast.

I don't think Community distributes outside of DFW right now. Spec's Houston gets it by having it sent to the downtown store via a Spec's truck (I think). I asked Joey about it last night and he thought there would be another shipment kind of soon, but didn't have a specific date or range

It's pretty popular on a lot of taps around town. Wouldn't be hard to find. I know Spec's will have the six packs.
