West Coast IPA
American Imperial IPA
I completely forgot my love for black IPAs temporarily... I will combine stout/porter to one choice and throw black IPA in for me.
Saison (barrel aged)
Imperial Stout (barrel aged)
Pale Ale - American
Saison / Wild Ale
Imperial Stouts (Barrel Aged)
1. Imperial Stout (this includes RIS)
2. Imperial Porter
3. English Barleywine
4. Old Ale
5. Flanders Red Ale
west coast pale ale of any ABV
Czech pale lager
Barrel aged stout
I’m surprised at the lack of lambic too
Oktoberfests are by far my most reviewed style and I always look forward to that time of year.
Today I’d say:
Next week I might give a different answer…
West Coast IPA
Your username is "darklager" and not a single Dark Lager beer style cracks your top 5 list?
What styles existed 2003?
Think about the long way we've come in many ways on the beer front!
Well, to be as transparent as possible I’m just going to carry my BA review style data over. I log most of the beers I drink here so this will be a good indicator of what I buy and drink the most of.
1) IPA- New England
2) IPA- American
3) Sour- Fruited Kettle Sour
4) Stout- American Imperial
5) Stout- Sweet/Milk
I love that my username is darklager when until last fall I hadn't one in years. They are still good but my tastes have definitely moved on in the past 20 years!
I like this approach to it. Using my official BA data my list looks more like:
IPA - New England | 98 | 9.37% | 4.15
Sour - Fruited Kettle Sour | 76 | 7.27% | 3.93
Wild Ale | 71 | 6.79% | 4.09
IPA - Imperial | 64 | 6.12% | 4.17
Stout - American Imperial | 64 | 6.12% | 4.15
We’ve got similar tastes, my friend! Cheers.
According to the BJCP: 78 beer styles.
All-Time based on my ratings:
1. Farmhouse Ale-Saison (Authentic Belgian Abbey brewed)
2. Belgian IPA
4. Belgian Strong Ale
5. Russian Imperial Stout
* Honorable mention, really tied for #5. IPA-New England
New England IPA
Except for the NEIPAs it looks like when you go into a bottle shop you suffer from severe disconnect somewhere between your eyes and your brain!
Simple tastes, and this is the order of tasting if all of these styles are available:
IPA - American / West Coast
In random order:
(BA) Imperial Stout
West Coast IPA
Tripel (Belgian Style)
Because they know they’ll be shamed and called haze bros? Only half kidding.
At least they've got me with Wild Ales too lol. But yeah, my reviews don't reflect my ideal bottle shop selection. Part of the curse of living close to Tree House I suppose
Juicy/Hazy Pale Ale
Juicy/Hazy Strong Pale Ale
Juicy/Hazy India Pale Ale
Juicy/Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale
1. Saison/Farmhouse (basic, not soured, aged, fruited, overpriced)
2. Munich Dunkel
3. Helles/Kolsch/Vienna Lager
4. Dopplebock (dark versions)
5. Rauchbier (German smoked beers, not cherrywood porters or peaty stuff)
For the most part, these are my "gotta haves" if I find them on tap. The issue is that there are too many brewers getting these wrong. So I would add the caveat that these are my top 5 if brewed correctly, if not, there better be a solid WCIPA or I'm leaving.
In no particular order:
1. Russian Imperial Stout
3. Saison/Farmhouse Ale
4. Dark Czech Lager
5. American Pale Ale
Honorable mention: Dortmunder
Honorable Mention: Saison/ Farmhouse
