We took it easy and watched Inglorious Basterds last night, my wife's first time (double :grimacing:), but that led to an aggressive New Year's Day!

First, we went to Links in Chicago. Had a Dustihl Cerise Stout Impériale for her and a Bourbon County 2013 Barleywine for me. We may have ended up with 2-3 of the BCBW each before we left! Well worth it.

Then a Nebraska Barrel Aged HopAnomaly (belgian IPA aged in Chardonnary barrels)

And lastly, an Alesmith Speedway Stout. Although, yes, I did have another BCBW before leaving.

Now at home, I'm currently indulging in this...

Why not?! I had some doubts on this one, but am thoroughly impressed. Deep, dark black pour with a quickly dissipating brown head. The aroma is blueberry and bourbon. On taste, I get blueberry and dark malts first, with the blueberry and bourbon barrel lingering. Well done Rev!

And finally, Happy New Year BAs!

Had a mighty lovely nap this afternoon. Probably could call it a sleep really.

Time for a beer before friends arrive for dinner:

My last can... Well I don't want some random dinner guest drinking my last one do I!!

First time for this beast. I have to say for me it's underrated. Very sweet, strong dark fruits, boozy. Excellent.

The owl returns, watching me imbibe a Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, my first of the day. The owl WAS a tree decoration, but our Bengal kitten decided it looked better on the floor. The stout pours thick, good tan head that lasts. Smells sweet. Excellent flavor, sweet though not syrupy, slight bitter finish. Good mouthfeel. I like this better than their Organic Chocolate Stout, which I though should have had more chocolate flavor. I'll get the Bengal in my next post.

Happy 2016! It has been a good day so far, a chilly run in Central Park followed by football and cooking a beef stew which due to my late start probably won't be ready till 10pm. So while I wait a new beer for me! Unfortunately not my favorite. Rose Bowl turning into a blow out, go Stanford!

The taste was worth the chase. Everything I was hoping it would be. Just appearing in Dothan Alabama today
Has that almost austrailian funky hop flavor. Tastes alot bigger than 6.7% but also has that watery hop Hunter aspect. Good lunchtime beer. Cheers guys.

Power is back on, up the road at my bro's for a few. Starting with a friends home brew. A stout with chocolate, vanilla beans and bourbon soaked oak chips. He hit a home run with this one!

Well, made it home safe and sound! Made really good time too! Car is unloaded and having some dinner.
So drinking this IPA from Stone:
    It is Delicious!

Just got off the phone with my Pops and....well...when it rains it pours. Now my Uncle Jim is back home from the hospital and is under hospice care. Cancer is a mutha fuckah!! My Aunt Chic is trying to keep it together, but first her baby sister and now her younger brother.:slight_frown:  Here's hoping that MOVING FORWARD this year will be better!

This seems kind of fitting for many different reasons

    Let's keep those HORNS UP!!

The weather finally turned colder and the wife felt like making something different. With no recipe she whipped up this chicken and black bean stew with a bit of Southwestern spices. She doesn't do heat but I convinced her it needed a tiny bit of smokey chipotle in it.

I am paring a WnB Coffee Oatmeal beer with it.

My belly is happy but the rest of me is mad that the Bruins got thumped in the Winter Classic.

Still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that the Buckeyes were behind Mich St and Iowa. Time to revisit the playoff format already. Needs to be 8 teams. Hell, basketball decided 64 wasn't enough. Also need to revisit the targeting rule. At least the ejection part. Helmet to pads is a crappy way to sit out your final game. What a wasted year. Rant over.
Finishing off my Arthur with some sharp white cheddar.

Enjoying the latest batch of Superfan from Odd13 this evening. A serious orange juice bomb.

Visited my folks over the holidays and picked up a few pieces of art from our days in Africa. Need to make a stand for that Africa map ostrich egg because that thing is incredible!

One more from the Forum last night. Hilarious that ultra Dead fan Bill Walton was on stage as father time!

    I agree Mr Z, I like it a lot
Thanks Mr B - the beer is very good. It is listed here as an old ale and a SN rep calls it an old ale but to me this is a barrel aged porter like the original. An excellent creamy low bitter porter with the added complexity of a barrel.
Thanks Karma Man, all just fun to me
Hey LJ - I'll agree on living part time in a different universe but I'm just a player while you are the real deal
