What beer are you drinking now? #1207

Ok, the games are on (well, the puck drop is probably like 8:12 or some odd shit). UVa game more important anyhow, as it is vs VaTech, who is one of UVa's 4 losses this year .


Pretty sure Devil's Backbone is officially closer to Charlottesville than Blacksburg. Sun King could go either way (though I think the westward-ness of VaTech puts it closer). Go Caps/Cavs!!

 

I just found out today that one of the great ones passed away this past Dec. 27th- so I'm lifting a beer and a dram to the life and memory of Scottish singer/musician/songwriter Andy M Stewart-

Very few are as suited to their particular genre as Andy was- there's an old axiom about folk songwriters that the great ones write songs that you think are traditional but are not, and he embodied that more than anyone else I can think of. Oh, the times I looked at the credits of an album only to exclaim "he wrote that?!!" Needless to say, we spent many a tipsy hour together, whether he knew it or not .

Here's an oft-covered one that originally appeared on the album pictured, and a proper drinking song at that-


and here's a traditional one that just seems appropriate-

the banter at the beginning, between Andy and Johnny Cunningham, is all the more bittersweet now knowing that both of them are gone. RIP, Andy- here's hoping the two of you are joking around again in the Land o' the Leal.

 

First time every having a Hopslam. This one was canned 7 days ago. I'm enjoying it! I'm surprised at how drinkable it is for the higher ABV. Cheers!

Very tasty beer from the mix six my wife got me on Monday. Watching last week's Ellen's Design Challenge with my wife.

 

Next up on tonight's list is Carton Brewing's 077XX (or "Oh Dub" as us local folk call it). Hands down my favorite NJ IPA. Cheers!!
