Re-org'ing the beer boxes and found an old Smokestack Double-Wide in one, from 2008.
A holdover from my voracious days of trading, this one hails from BGThang's domain.
Drinking beautifully even if the hops are much 'paler' in nature.

No review tonight, but suffice it to say that I'm enjoying this Alchemy Hour. Although, not as much retention or lacing as I was expecting . . . could be the glass (hence waiting to review another time). That honey malt really smooths it out on the back end, but it still maintains a strong, lingering hop flavor. Great balance of smooth, malty sweetness and bitter, hoppy bite.

    First, Matilda '12.
Delicious and bretty. A supreme Belgian Pale, in my opinion. I was thirsty, and needed something refreshing and satisfying, at the same time.

Then, Weyerbacher Tiny from last year.
I wasn't expecting such a vinous aroma, and then, I wasn't anticipating the flavors to be so deeply rooted in cocoa, coffee, and dark fruits. Alcohol was much needed, but not over-the-top somehow. Another beer is on-deck, to be sure.

Definitely in the Syracuse area. Hit shelves today.

I'm a little confused, though—the freshness date on the bottles says 5/1/13, and it's my recollection that GL hoppy beers at least get 90 / 3-month freshness periods, which would suggest that this beer was bottled around the end of January / early February. It didn't even hit shelves in Ohio until the middle of the month. Am I missing something here? Are my calculations wrong? Just seems odd that they'd hang onto it for a couple of weeks before getting any out into distro.
