Biere de Provence by Dogfish Head

Artwork: A quite lovely label, detailed yet classy and quite appropriate given the name, style and ingredients of this beer.
Appearance: Amber and very well-filtered clear. I like my saisons to be a bit cloudy but the clarity on this one is very fitting for its beautiful amber color. The head however is rather small its retention rather short.
Nose: Lots of herbs. Lavender, bay, marjoram are all there. Makes me think this is going to taste like some kind of grandma soap. Not much yeast.
Taste: I'm a Saison purist so I hardly ever approve of saisons with extra ingredients, especially herbs, as I don't like my drink to smell like a marinade or some kind of shampoo. However, and unlike what the nose prepares you for, the herbs are not too noticeable here. Instead all the right Saison flavors are there. Spicy, yeasty and all around delicious. Somewhat on the sweet side and without any tart notes, which may have been nice.
Mouthfeel: Medium, with light carbonation that is not very noticeable on the tongue.
Overall: For reasons I described above I was skeptical of this beer at first (and especially given how little I liked Saison Du Buff, which Dogfish Head helped brew) but it was a pleasant surprise. The herb aromas are mild and complimentary to the rest of the aromas/flavors and do not dominate. Well done.

    Afternoon WBAYDNers:

Couple of airport beers while I wait for my flight. First up Schlafly kolsch:

Actually a pretty good beer! Rated lower on here than it deserves. But it's a lager so .... Next up, Schlafly Helles style lager:

Solid beer but not as good as the Kolsch.

A couple of the 'fine' pilsner beers with a neighbor after mowing the lawn. They're cold leftovers in the cooler from yesterday's cook out. I haven't had one of these in a long time and I'm surprised at how sweet it tastes. Going to make fast work of these stragglers!
