Some things sound too good to be true. This is not one of those things. This beer is outstanding. Very Jackie O's esque

Ok, on to the professional brewers, two of them on this VA collaboration - my first from the most recent Devil's Backbone Collaboration Pack for me. This is a sour IPA, and given how many I'm seeing these days, might this be the new style for this year??

Parkway Brewing out of Salem, VA is the collaborator on this Sixth Circle. It's a decent slightly and almost puckeringly tart, with a moderate bitterness in the end.

I loved getting DB's Collab packs so easily, always were some great beers in there, maybe I can hunt it down here in GA. But if you're digging that sour ipa, I had one last year from South Street Brewing (Charlottesville) called Tongue Dropper that was pretty good!

Good morning, all, and Happy Flea Market Saturday! I wasn't expecting much this early in the season, but you never know what's going to turn up. I was looking through a box of miscellaneous junk at the end of one of the tables. The stuff looked like it came out of a barn or something, and it was so dusty and dirty that they didn't even bother to clean it off. I found an old-looking chalice while I was rummaging around and decided to take a chance for a buck. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? When I got home, I rinsed it off and soaped it down. When I did, I found some hallmarks on the bottom. I looked them up and found out that the chalice was made in London in 1908, and that its composition was .925 silver. I did a little more research and found a picture of one that looked very similar, same maker, same composition. It recently sold for over $2,000 in a private sale. Score!:slight_smile::slight_smile: I got out some silver polish and spiffed it up. Cleaned up nice, don't you think? It almost looks like it belongs in a church.

I've seen Tongue Dropper before, but haven't tried it yet. Have to grab one if I see it again.

Really enjoyed the last collaboration pack, so no hesitation grabbing this one. This is all VA breweries, apparently there's a "high end" one coming out in summer. This one has two "sour influenced" offerings with a brett beer (w/Three Notch'd) on top of this one. An IPA (of course) with Ocelot, an Irish stout with Mad Fox, and a bier de mars with O'Connor.

I mention them all b/c there wasn't much on the site that I found easily.

Seeking enlightenment on this beautiful Spring day . . .

    Score 4.06
    look: 3.5 | aroma: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Dark mahogany brown with gold highlights around the edges. Good tan cap and decent lacing.

Herbal, spicy, slightly coffeeish, toffeeish aroma with something like dark figs in the background. Not really catching any hops but these heavy flavors usually cover that up anyway.

Taste on entry is dark toffee quickly followed by the herbal element. Don't know exactly what that element is, perhaps a lager yeast at warmer temperature fermentation has created that but it's in there and it taste good. Mid palate I'm getting more of the plummy, ripe fig influence which is just adding layers to the first impression flavors. Spicy, clove like threads weave in by the finish and linger in the aftertaste along with a touch of coffee but no roast bitterness.

    Full texture with balancing carbonation.

Sometimes a dark brew based on roasted malt can throw off some bitterness along with the rich flavors. Not here, the elements I'm describing work together nicely. I don't quite know what kind of animal this is, an ale influenced lager or a lagered ale, but the jammy, figgy, roasty, toasty, clove stuff shout Belgian while it drinks like a strong lager and a good one at that. Complex yet restrained, flavorful yet sophisticated, a whole lotta shakin going on.
