well..the cold air finally made it to New York, and what a better way to start the day and warm up than a having a coffee stout..well here is Trillium's PM Dawn..cheers!

 

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Thanks to all that have served in the armed forces on this Veterans day. Looking to be another chilly one. It is supposed to snow later tonight.

One of my favorite local browns, haven't had this in a while. Flavors of caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, toffee, cocoa, toasted brown bread, nuttiness, and light wood smoke/coffee/char; with some light-moderate balancing herbal/floral/piney hop flavor/bitterness. Nice creamy medium bodied mouthfeel; light hop stickiness and chalky roast. Touch of dryness. A very traditional tasting brown ale, despite having smoked malts. They are not overdone at all. Very complex and spot on to style.


Amazing saison! Haven't had this in a while, one of my top favorites. Had to revisit this after having Ginnepin, and not being as impressed. This one is still what I remember. Insane head retention and lasting thick lacing on the glass. Flavors of lemon, peach, pear, orange peel, red apple, melon, coriander, peppercorn, ginger, and light banana/clove yeast/spices; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bready malts; herbal, floral, grass and yeasty earthiness. Moderate peppery yeast spiciness, herbal/grassy/citrus peel bitterness; and light wheat tang/tartness on the finish. High carbonation, medium body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy/silky wheat creaminess and yeast/hop/spice stickiness in the mouthfeel. Moderately increasing bitter/spicy/carbonated dryness. Refreshingly smooth. Damn, this is world class stuff. Glad I got a 4 pack a few weeks ago. Amazing complexity with perfectly balanced yeast and spice flavors; on a solid wheat/pale malt backbone. Surprisingly light and dry feeling for 7.7%. Will be rewriting this review. Score went down a bit overall. 4.38


Finally got my hands on the new batch with Mosaic hops. Other pack I drank said Falconers Flight 7 C's and Citra. This is fantastic! Flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, lemon/orange zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with balanced wheat, biscuity malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very mild pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; fantastic creamy/silky/grainy wheat mouthfeel. Light hop stickiness, with lightly increasing bitter dryness. Insanely drinkable. Yep, this is the better batch as I hoped; but not by a huge margin. Fairly similar hop profile, but the mouthfeel is way more soft/silky and far less bitter/drying. Will definitely keep buying this beer. Mikkeller is seriously killing it with the SD brewery. Better tasting batches of their old beers from across the pond, at a far more affordable price too. 4.15


Revisiting this one a year later. Best before next week . This is still insanely amazing. Flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, fudge, brown sugar, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of raisins, cherries, licorice, and smoke. Light roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spice on the finish. Very full bodied creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Slight chalky roast, oak tannins, and dryness. Mildly warming finish, minimal booziness for 14.3%(in the aromas or flavors to boot). Dangerously smooth sipper. Really glad I grabbed another one of these while I could. Glad they are going to 12 ounce bottles this year. This is top tier stuff for a BBA coffee stout. Spot on nutty/fruity coffee complexity, with perfectly balanced rich malts and barrel notes. I'd say I prefer it over KBS actually.

Woodland Empire • Midnight to Midnight

 

good morning!

 

First, something from last night. Bottled on Dec 2015, this is just short of 2-years old, one of many bottles of its kind sitting in my cellar. Probably the most bitter beer I've had in quite some time. Very complex and aromatic but the hopping is insane. Despite the heavy malt base, the bittering is way dominant.

And something a little bit lighter for this morning. Even though this is a relatively fresh can (less than a month old) the beer itself smells like an old IPA. I guess it didn't travel very well from Chicago.

This is a work of art, that is a joy to experience this time of year. But enough about my winter pajamas. The 2017 Bells Black Note Stout tastes amazing.

 

The last few days have been a whirlwind. I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend consisting of football and beer.

Good morning and happy Saturday fellow BA's! 3 mile run in the books, sheets washed and toilets cleaned (wife went to work at 0500). Great 58 degree FL morning. Happy Veterans Day to my fellow vets! My dad was an army chaplain in WW2. I know one BA still serving, Roguer Happy V-day to you and your wonderful family! A special God bless to those that lost a family member/friend. An extra special thanks to those living with/loving/laughing with a vet that returned with a hardship. You truly are angels on earth! OK, on to the beer before I well up. Born on 9/25 but still enjoyable. last one from a good up and coming brewery.

 

Grabbed one of these a coupla days ago. Deliberating whether to crack it open now or let it mellow in my cellar for awhile.

Those are some pretty gnarly pajamas I must say.

 

Thank you. It would probably be best to let the beer age if you have just one. It certainly is delicious as it is now, though. These pajamas are quite comfortable. If there were pockets, I would consider wearing this outfit to the monster truck rally that I am going to today.

 

This stuff is so solid.

 

It is truly amazing how the hops and bitterness hold up in this beer after years of cellaring. One of my favorites to age. Cheers.

Or so I thought. Bottled 22 days ago and overwhelming vanilla forward. I bought a six pack so I'll wait and see if they mellow over time. Enjoy what's in your glass today BA!
