They're goin' all 666 in NBS... figured I'd come over and bless WBAYDN with a Big Bad Baptist. Batch #56 bottled September 2015, aged since then in my cellar. Cheers!
Victory Moon Glow
God I love this style. The first of two of this style I'll be enjoying this evening.
Clownshoes Breakfast Beast. This is really the only beer I have left that sort of meshes with today's theme on NBS
Good stuff from Sierra Nevada!
Sixth pour of this fine NEW beer in hopes that The Duvel will go easy on @Lingenbrau ...but in my experience...
Vermont re-up is coming in a couple weeks. The addition of cans at Hill Farmstead has made the shelf beer mix / quantity mix & match math much harder. #GoodProblems
This is not a stout but a black IPA. Looks and even taste somewhat like a stout other than a hint of hop bitterness. Brewed by Veil. One of several brews released on Friday as part of their Dark Daze celebration.
Such an awesome brew.
Firestone Walker's Bravo Brown ale
Drinking This Swill Here!
“I curse the day of my Birth”
At Bosque enjoying a Bourbon Barrel Aged Double Sunshine Stout.
This is the only "blond" stout I have tried and I totally disagree with the label of stout. I tried the base beer a year ago and was not a fan at all, probably in large part because I was expecting something very different from what I got. I am definitely enjoying this beer today but I think that has a large part to do with the fact that I went in with a clearer understanding of what to expect.
When I drink a stout I expect some of the following: roast, coffee, char, dark chocolate, and/or milk chocolate. I get nothing of the like here. With this I get white chocolate, milk, vanilla, bourbon, and oak (the latter trio, courtesy of the barrel).
Grillin under way, going lo res until I grab the "special " steak beer. Amazingly enough that piece of lamb and a few small sides will fill the wife up, well that and a bunch of bread and wine...
Switched off to bourbon for a bit...
Had some snacks...
Balsamic BellaVitano, finocchiona, spicy olives, and water crackers...
I also dropped some Haagen Dazs dulce de leche ice cream into my bourbon for dessert, but it looked so ugly, I didn't take a pic - fantastic-tasting though!
Back around now, with bourbon barrel Ten Fidy...
Watching the late games wind down... Only big surprise today was that KC loss...
I agree with your stout expectations. Anything other than what you described would be a let down. Based upon your review, I may steer clear of "blond" stouts unless they are part of a beer flight.
Good evening, all! One of the guys at church this morning told me he had picked up some beer while he was visiting family in Ottumwa, and that he had one for me in his car. He comes up with some interesting stuff from time to time, so I was anxious to see what he had. When he took it out of the bag, I about fell over. It was a 2017 BCBS (!) He'll get a chance to see how it stacks up against the 2015 and 2016 when I do my vertical on these. (I warned him he'd probably have to Uber home.) Here is another gift from a fellow beer geek: Entrenched IPA, from Alarmist Brewing in Chicago. Interesting "Illinois style" IPA, brewed to showcase the malts as well as the hops. In a word, outstanding.
Westbrook doing a good job on these Rinse Repeat
I'd be wary of trusting anything I say. Especially my beer reviews and beer descriptions.
Do not underestimate the power of wine to keep the wife happy.
Time for another trip to Boston as this is my last DDH Congress St. from my end of summer trip. Still drinking very nice also. Cheers!!!
Whiskey and bourbon. You my friend have your act together. I have been floating a rule that BAs can post one non beer pic a night. My wife calls it "Mike is a stupid ass" rule named after yours truly
Anyway, nice pics!
Evil Twin's Even More JCS.
Pretty tasty, can says it all
Someone was going door to door today with some sort of survey during the football game. I didn’t get up because my neighbor text me that they were coming.
Channeling the Stones today for some reason
Revisiting this one after letting it sit, man I am really liking it tonight..... Well done @sierranevadabill
Jester King Kvass - my first of this beer type. Celebrating silver medal in my Thanksgiving weekend hockey tournament!
This. With some nachos. Cheers.
Seems you have your act together at least as compared to me. I am getting into the stout thing recently (liver wants something other than IPAs and DIPAs). Maybe it is the cooler weather but I am starting to form my own opinions about stouts and very much appreciate other opinions.
I bought two four packs of a Veil stout (Hornswoggler) that seem to hit the spot. I would welcome any suggestions you have.
Got home from NJ 45 minutes ago and this tastes better than the one I had on the Jersey Shore Wednesday night.
The reason is, that night it followed a couple, three DIPAs. Pretty tasty right now!
Oskar Blue's Death By Coconut......I don't really care for coconut, but what a fantastic beer.
The Wanderer, cheers!
Regret not buying another one
Quest NEDIPA, rock solid and tasty stuff.
You think I have my act together? Have you been drinking?
As for stout recommendations.....its always tough to make recommendations to those in other markets. I have always been a fan of Ipswich's Oatmeal Stout, any Epic coffee stout like Big Bad Baptist and Son of a Baptist, Deschutes Black Butte Porter, Left Hand's Milk Stout (regular > nitro, IMO), Founders Porter, Bell's Expedition Stout (and I really want to try their Porter), Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, amongst others that might be available in your neck of the woods.
My way of finishing a great thanksgiving weekend.
Yes, I have been drinking but that would be the answer most of the time.
I have had a few of the stouts you listed. I especially like Left Hands Milk stout and Ten Fidy. Gonna try a few of the others you listed.
Thanks for your help!
I think I am going to open a stout as soon as I hit the post reply buttton.
Possibly the last brew of the day, and I'm going back to finish off a bottle from earlier today.
You're absolutely right, and to get her out of my hair by about 8:15-8:30
