Another new one for me, pours like used motor oil, smells like bourbon, and tastes excellent, cheers!

Modern Times with coffee, coconut and cocoa. Lots of coffee and cocoa but not getting much coconut.

Pre dinner beer;



Great coconut and chocolate nose and taste. Good heft for a Porter too. Could have been dessert!

 

All day for 10.99/4 Pints.

Snagged a bottle of Goose Island Bourbon County Barrel Aged Stout. Being a 14.10% stout this thing is dangerous and delicious!

 

I bet this is really good. The juice is awesome too!

 

Well, made it home from work ok. Storm formed a little farther west then they thought, so the worst is hitting us now.

My boss hooked me up with a mixed 12 pack of New Glarus, as an early Christmas present. Started with a Black Top, their gold medal winning black IPA. It is more of a dark brown, especially when held up to the light. Hits all the right notes for the style though, pine & chocolate dominate.

Train Beer

Westbrook Brewing DDH Motueka/Wakatu Rinse/Repeat (photo from brewery IG post)

This a very interesting IPA, with layers upon layers of different flavors. Initial flavor profile of lemon/lime citrus with a gummy candy flavor that reminds me oddly and so specifically of the childhood favorite white flavor shark bite gummy candies. It must be some berry that I can't pinpoint, like a less sweet blueberry. Big stone fruit flavor that reminds me of a hard, unripened white peach/nectarine, along with white grape. Some mango. There's a sweet spicyness. Think rye, not heat. It's grassy, with a bitter, lingering herbal flavor. It's an effervescent beer remiscient of champagne.

This ain't no pillowy soft juice bomb of an IPA. Much more layered and complex probably to be paired nicely with some oily fish or a charcuterie plate. Respect Westbrook.
