Sometimes you try to do the right thing and it backfires. So Magic hadnt really eaten much in about 4 days. Plus he was breathing a little strangely. Vet visits were extremely stressful but we had to give it a shot. Unfortunately my old man had a heart attack and died in my arms on the way to the vet. Sad night after 18 years of companionship. This ones for you budd...

We drove up from the Shore this morning and it's been a tale of two days. It was dry and mild when we left but upon arrival home we were greeted by a couple inches of heavy, wet snow on the driveway. Ugh! Tomorrow it's supposed to be unseasonably warm. Welcome to February in the Garden State!

On vacation in Orlando and brought some stuff from home to drink in our hotel rather than pay old “Uncle Walt” and company outrageous prices for their crap beers. I did have a Sweetwater 420 at the water park today which was a pleasant surprise. This is a thick heavy NE DIPA from Blackstack Brewing out of St. Paul. Cheers!

I forgot I got the day off work. Woohoo. This actually is perfectly warm for the outside cold. Very good, but wouldn't mind trying a BBA version. Tempted to follow this with some Knob Creek to get the effect. Cheers!

First time with this one, so I'll include a brief review.

"Freshest by" date is 4 months away. For a coffee beer I'd definitely prefer a "Bottled on" date, but something's better than nothing.

The nose reminds me a lot of the Cigar City Café con Leche I posted yesterday. Coffee, maple, chocolate. Liquid breakfast.

The taste hits on similar notes. This beer's biggest strength is probably that it's 8% ABV and drinks like it's 6%. Coffee, milk chocolate, and raisin ride atop a medium mouthfeel. There's a little bit of a copper/metallic note mid-palate that takes the taste from exceptional to good, but it seems to fade as my palate adjusts and the beer warms up a little. In fact, as I approach the halfway point of the bomber this note is basically nonexistent. Also, maybe I have yesterday's Café Con Leche in my head, but this drinks more like a milk stout than a brown ale. That being said, I'm not one to obsess over classification. This tastes good, so I'm on board with it.

Overall, this grew on me. It's very easy-drinking for the ABV and ultimately a beer I'd get again. 4.1/5

I'm getting ready to make some chili, and I'm drinking this fine DDH IPA.

Some days I regret not becoming a teacher. It just so happens those days always coincide with holidays and for 3 months every summer. Never the less, I'm finally home. Cozying up to some dark beers tonight. Supposedly we're in for storms, and I hope so... it's been a while since I've seen a good lightening show.
