Day off today so I am starting it off with a Monje Azul (Blue Monk) from Sleepy Dog Brewing in Tempe AZ. This is my first try of product from these guys. Its not bad. A light summer ale made with Belgian Yeast and Blue Agave Nectar. [IMG]

Erm. Is that just a really old bottle, or has Short's started bottling it already this year...?

Drinking my second can of Heady Topper! About 2 weeks old, and a lot fresher than the first one I had. It drinks more smoothly and its definitely not a subtle DIPA- I think the first can was old enough that it was missing a lot of hop bite. That being said Heady is not bitter like Abrasive gets, but it's not as smooth and tasty as Pliny is.

From a homebrewer's perspective (assuming all 3 are dryhopped properly), I would guess that Abrasive has a ton of early hop additions (bittering- thus the experience focuses on hop bitterness and flavour), while Pliny is heavier on the later hop additions (aromatic- focusing on nose and flavour rather than outright bitterness) while Heady has a good bit of both- it's not quite as aromatic as Pliny is but its not as bitter as Abrasive is. Its somewhere in between- quite bitter, but still nicely drinkable. So I'm not sure where to put it- but it's a damn good beer!

At this point though on my pantheon of DIPAs: Pliny > Abrasive > Heady. All 3 I'll seek out, and all 3 bring different strengths to the table. I love all 3!

Diggin this one, lots of burnt toffee. I usually like my hoppy beers leaning towards the hops but every once in awhile it's nice to have something more balanced.

Long day digging today, putting a bunch of NCAA athletes (incl. CJ Fair & Jarami Grant) to shame with my shoveling prowess. So, I'm finishing last night's Stone IPA and eating chips and salsa before showering and finishing moving out of my old apartment. Been jamming to some old school RHCP the past couple of days:
