Southern Tier's Battle in Four Dimensions.

 

Hey gentlemen, stopped into my little spot just over the NC border for some different distro. To start is Grimm Telos Pilsner.

 

Nasty day outside just want to stay in and watch Netflix. Resisted the urge to grab some Robert the Bruce and watch that new Robert the Bruce movie. Now what to watch? The Hobbit Series?

 

Things are looking Grimm for me this afternoon. Really like this one, draft only.

 

Took a quick trip outside with the dogs and realized there would be no sun today
So I headed back inside and am having a SN Narwhal prior to my beer run .
Hadn’t had this stout in a few years, but now realize how terrific it truly is .. Going to try and put a couple of bottles away in the cellar for next year .

Firestone Walker Dark & Stormy



If you enjoy the Dark and Stormy you’d probably like this beer. Again, subtle. Rum barrel, ginger and particularly the lime. Especially well integrated.

This isn't the first Christmas beer of the season for me at this point but I continue to work through the bounty of dark lager beers on offer. This is a 12% plato, 5.3% abv, 30 IBUs, dark lager beer using pilsner and dark caramel malt and dry hopped with Cascade and Saaz hops. The beer is lighter bodied than alot of other Swedish Christmas beers, which is obviously intentional with an OG of 12%. The hop bitterness and mild hop flavors add to the dryness of the beer. The outstanding flavors are caramel malt, moderate hop bitterness and mild hop flavors. I think this beer is meant to be a lighter beer for people who think their other Christmas lager beer is too heavy, yet rather than being flavorless it has noticable caramel malt flavor and is balanced by hops. It is also quite clean, to the point where it lacks an indentifiable brewery signature telling you that this beer was brewed by a particular brewery, which is something which other Christmas beers tend to have. This I think might be the biggest detractor of this beer come to think of it, it becomes generic tasting.

 

I picked up a couple bottles to try, i did not care for Wicked Weed's take on this hoping for better results with FW.
