Not sure if this really makes for a great pairing, but a very nice rumpsteak and hoppy Saison anyway. Many thanks @jzeilinger for the bottle!

I can't say it's one I want to watch repeatedly. The tack taken - really no interviewing, at least not on camera, and just letting the artists speak for themselves - is at times really fresh and raw, and at other times dragging and stilted. It's like 30 minutes of genius, but in a 90 minute presentation.

The soundtrack, though? Dude, it's amazing! For a black metal documentary, the non-black metal tracks they picked were dark and mesmerizing.

I find the focus on Varg and Fenriz really fascinating, too (kind of like how True Norwegian Death Metal focused on Gaahl). They both have a very similar outlook on black metal: they hate "posers," they kind of feel they had the original feel down. The difference? Fenriz acknowledges the course of history, whether or not he likes it, whereas Varg - here and in multiple interviews, including on his own channel - seems to reinvent the history to fit his view of it.

I honestly wonder if Varg hasn't become so used to lying to himself, at creating his own version of reality, that he really believes the things he says. Which is a shame (along with his fascism), because he is otherwise eloquent and fascinating.

Froze this for 40 minutes cause I couldn't wait. This is one of the first beers I bought because of seeing it on this thread. Cheers, virtual bar brethren! I'm going to go shovel one last time so our guests can get to the house tonight.

Drinking heavy seas' Schnee Boot. Always nice to find an eisbock, nice balance of malt and fruit notes. Shame that it seems to be a once brewed beer.

My first go here at Foreign Objects brewing and their fancy ass art cans here ba. This is Fascination Street, ipa featuring citra and vic secret hop. A bit too much white wine for me but decent enough drinking for sure. 12/27/18,

Grabbed some stouts today after errands...

That Dark Cherry Pistachio imperial stout is new to me so...
Chocolate and cherry aromas at the fore on the nose, followed by a rich but not too sweet roasted malt flavor on the sip... Cherry is, for my taste, handled impeccably on this stout - neither tart nor too sweet, but as a rounding flavor element, binding nicely with bittersweet chocolate syrup, some roasty, bittering char, and the mild hint of chewy pistachio nut... Full-bodied, smooth, mildly carbonated, mildly sweet, with a nice drying finish that asserts the pistachio flavor more than at any other time... I'm not usually a fan of cherry - as a fruit or in a beer, but this was just fantastic... 12/4/18 canning...

    Great pregame beer...
Watching that snow fall in KC... Oughtta be a great game today - all four games this weekend are real compelling actually, just like last weekend's Wild Card round... Gonna reheat some pizza and have some more beer shortly after kickoff...

Birthday nods triggered a coupla listens...

Rob Zombie, 54 today... Cool-seeming dude with a passion for rock and horror - dig some of his films - his Halloween remakes fer sure, and - guilty pleasure-wise - some of this other stuff, too - mostly for mindless shock horror... Musically, I'm pretty much just a fan of La Sexorcisto, but the missus digs all his stuff, and I've enjoyed it a fair bit, too...

    Zach de la Rocha, 49...

Really just a fan of their first album - I dig the anger and rebellion, but I don't know his specific socio-political leanings - I'm a big fan of "fuck the system" though... After their eponymous album, I basically lost interest other than for this cover...

    Game time, BA, cheers...

Furniture is put together and the women are happy ! Time for a big beer. Aromas are nice with that classic old ale maltiness along a strong presence of sweet cherries. Kinda disappointed that I'm not picking up any of the brandy on the nose or the palate. Very similar to the ichigan only release a few years back. Cheers !

Every time I buy a bottle of bourbon my wife hides it. I am not making this up. Probably for the better even though I do love bourbon.

Oldest son in law stocks a lot of bourbon so I get my bourbon fix when I visit which is frequently since they live just 10 miles away and one mile from the Veil brewery.

No dog in this fight (pun intended), so a nice vintage Parabola should be good while I wait for my Rams to come on. The 2-1/2 years of extra maturing always helps.

Onto Weyerbacher Insanity. Much better than standard blithering idiot, the candied flavor meldes wonderfully with the barrel aging, with extra oak and vanilla notes. A wonderful example of a non hoppy barleywine.

Too lazy to take a Pic, but I’m scratching that itch with an ice cold Michelob watching the KC/Indy game. Like this beer a lot, it’s smooth and nicely malty in a good way, it’s certinly not a yellow fizzy beer, a bit more hops and it would be stellar, but it does call itself a Munich style lager.
