I will not be leaving the house today.

With the wind and sub-zero temps I wasn't venturing too far from the house last night when I went outside to take pics of eclipse, but there is a hill of trees obstructing my view. I tried later when it moved west, but it was partial to penumbral at that point.

Anyway...

Back from long walk with dogs, bright sunshine, but still breezy and 54 degrees. There’s a couple of guys sunning by the pool, but they’re nuts. I’m going to put some stouts in the fridge for later today...

 

A bit of a curiosity. It had sat on the Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS) until it was the last one left! I added it to my Box o' Doom (my ongoing stash) & then I received it in a Secret Santa exchange. Kinda odd, kinda yummy. Kinda Kulture Clash:

Alloy Brewing Company Barn Burner Farmhouse Ale

 

The Veil Klean Belgiez belgian quad on this frigid day off

With a side of some nc peanuts!

 

Bright amber gold with light tan cap and moderate lacing.

Aroma has nice touches of toffee, caramely malt and little hop presence.

Good rich flavor here, nicely rounded with a hint of sweetness and hops playing a very diminished role. Darker malt flavor is evident without any roasted malt bitterness. An Amber Ale worthy of the name in color, flavor, texture and taste. No, I'm not saying flavor and taste can't be the same thing, rather here we have several flavor threads creating a fairly complex taste. I don't know why the same brewery makes Dos Perros and Gerst as both have a similar appeal and this one is clearly the winner of the two.

Definitely not too sweet with a wonderful maple flavor.

Advocates ... I honestly went looking for the Sierra Nevada Brut ipa but it wasn't anywhere in sight. I ended up with a 24 oz can of the above. I like it !!!

Aslin Beer Company Laser Raptor NEDIPA. Poured into a Nordic Pint glass canned 2 or 3 weeks ago I was told. Pours a very hazy dark orange with a finger plus off white head that leaves big thick rings of lace behind as it slowly settles into a thick layer of bubbles. 4.75

Smell is guava, tangerine, pineapple, maybe a hint of peach, slightly herbal dankness, and grapefruit rind. 4.75

Taste follows tropical front to back guava, tangerine, pineapple, some weedy chronic flavor, and just mild grapefruit bitterness. 4.75

Mouthfeel is a big medium, perfect soft mouthfeel, sticky from the insane amount of dry hopping, but not dry, and at 8.3% so amazingly drinkable. 5

Overall this brewery has really impressed me. I found a few trade partners on FB Craft Beer Connection and New England Craft Beer Connection and I am stoked because I had never heard of some the great Breweries in Virginia. 4.75
