Still watching Vikings, but fully circling back to Arkansas with a Lost Forty Forest Queen S'Mores Stout, don't see an ABV, doesn't seem too crazy

As good as any other vintage, methinks; but still a bit hard to handle such a great beer coming from a company I loathe. I will always purchase a couple of these no matter who owns it, though.

So here we are. OMG!!! Less than one month until its not good anymore!!! Ive always liked their style. Some have definitely had different character. The last two that stood out to me were 4/20/18 and 10/31/18. "Marijuana" and "pumpkin" aroma/flavor respectively but using different hop blends to achieve both. Clean, crisp, hoppy, bitter, West Coast love.

 

The only good result of a tornado!!!

Wow, that one's been outta rotation for awhile now. Lupulin came in and took their place as a tap room around August (I think). They brew much better beer IMO Glad you CAN have this way out in Pennsylvania.

 

So after a really cool evening with some old friends and a 3 hour jam session, I'm back to do a side-by-side of Plaid Habit. I guess this is my jam tonight.

A 2018 and another 2019 side by side here :




Notice the color difference (more noticeable in person) - 2018 has a lighter reddish shade and the 2019 has a more brown-mahogany color.

Cellared 2018's aroma is of Werthers candy, brown sugar, toffee, and hot oak. The flavor is definitely more alcoholic than the 2019, and has an unmistakably beautiful hot whiskey presence. What follows is toffee, brown sugar, and lots of woody oak. A bit stiff or stuffy, though not bad, not quite as sweet as when it was new.

The 2019 aroma is closer to a Belgian Dark Ale, taking on some slight dark candi sugar, plum, and molasses. Flavor is sweeter, much less alcohol burn and not quite as "winter warmer-friendly" as the 2018. This would make sense as it is nearly 1.5% ABV lower this year. Definitely sweeter with more candi sugar and plum though, perhaps more caramel too.

Overall verdict is that I still like 2018 better even though it borders on too stiff/alcoholic, which I assume is why they dialed back the ABV this year. If you do find 2018 pick it up, but 2019 is no slouch either. Still love it, will probably go back for more if it's available. Probably my favorite BA Boulevard beer to date.

I've had the beer and loved it. Also, I used to race in the wooden sailboat class in NJ that the beer was named for!
