It's a hot day, so I should go with a nice crisp IPA. However, as is often the case, I am opening the night with a BIG ale. A Scotch ale aged in Scotch barrels, coming in at 13.2% ABV. I love a nice ale aged in scotch barrels - so different than the more common bourbon barrels. This is also brewed with candi sugar and coriander. Really unique nose - some nice chewing tobacco notes combined with coriander and molasses. The plum and raisins sneak in for a visit. The taste is fantastic. Cheers all.

Last night's closer: Did the late night ethnic assassination in style and "Killed two Irish shelf turds with one stone". The Whiskey was down to the final 1 inch left in the bottle and the Guiness has been in the fridge for a good two years.

Mrs. LouB was kind enough to share her Edmund's Oast Sour Apricot Peach with me. She loves sours. I haven't developed much of a taste for them. She doesn't raid my stash, and I stay out of hers. The perfect beer marriage.

Kent Falls has let me down in the past, but this one they knocked out of the park...Substrate, their take on a dark lager, is robust yet clean and full of roast, cocoa and burnt coffee tones, with a brilliant little hoppy snap...great way to start things off tonight. Cheers, BA!

I really appreciate that genuine sentiment, man. If I thought I could/would trade beer, predictably, I'd do it. But I would be AWFUL at it. FWIW, we do get the barrel aged Dark Star (and its variants) here quite regularly.
But let me think on all this; just don't know if I need another OCD obsession in my life.

Whole Foods had some fresh looking Nelson packs today. But, no date on the box or no date on the cans once I tore the box open. Le sigh. No Nelson.

L: More green than yellow it is a hazy sight to behold. Aside from a couple fingers of froth that settle slowly but leave minimal lace, this almost looks like a Mountain Dew soda more than a beer.

S: Sweet and sticky, similar to the beverage for which it is named, but a little citrus eels through.

T: The lactose adds to the Mountain Dew syrup to impress. This is tasty and easy drinkable.

F: This is clearly trying to replicate the soda in beer form and the feel nails it Peet well.

O: If you want a beer buzz on weird, this is it. If you want a Mountain Dew inspiration that is still more of a beer, well, not it! If you do drink it you will probably be wishing for some Doritos!

Moving onto the next $3.33 crowler of cloud walker. Pretty nice beer.

the roads are getting more crowder every day as I drive to/from work. I really miss the empty road from a few months ago. I do enjoy being back at work though.

    Enjoy

Collective Arts Guava Gose. Awesome. Aromas and flavors of huge juicy/tart/tangy pink guava, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, coriander, sea salt, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough malts; light peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light coriander spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation, medium-plus body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/grainy wheat, lactic acid, fruit tang/tannins; light sticky spice, and salinity in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy dryness; no pucker/astringency. Very flavorful, pretty refreshing, no warmth of 4.9%. Not overly lactic/salty. Awesome balance of super juicy/jammy guava and Lacto complexity; with a great pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity for the ABV. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp acidic/tangy dryness. Loved it.

It's actually a restoration sort of thing. There were two cedar planters tossed next to the dumpster for trash at our church so I took one and the percussion player in our band (also a woodworker) took the other one. There's some cracks in the cedar so instead of gluing the cracks I filled them with epoxy for character. Next is to sand it all down and apply a water seal. In a nutshell, I made a matching cedar lid and it's going in the Beer Garden to be a storage vessel / plant stand / extra seating. 'Couldn't believe our church was tossing these!!

Life is full of woulda / coulda / shoulda's ... but you remember him ... it ain't the same as having a personal connection (on an emotional or psychological level), but he's not forgotten...enjoy what you can, don't dwell unnecessarily on what can't be changed...
