Have a good Friday. Have been up watching Rick and Morty and listening to music all night. Been a good week I'd say.

New Belgium Voodoo Ranger 1985 IPA. Excellent NEIPA. Opaquely hazy. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart/tangy mangoes, melon, tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light honey/toasted malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; and fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; very creamy/bready/grainy malts, some sticky hops, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness; no hop astringency. Very smooth/soft, minimal warming 6.7% or lingering hop burn after the finish. Great Citra, Simcoe, Cascade profile. Very juicy/vibrant hops/fruit with light dank/earthy notes; with a nice sized wheat/oat/malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. No complaints as expected. Love the VR series.

So today is going to be the hottest Midsummer's Eve in 50 years. Grrreeeaaat... I've had one shower already, looking forward to at least two more. Catching up on my reviews, drinking some IPA, and listening to golden oldies.

After two months and an epic road trip through North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Illinois, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden, my BA Gear box FINALLY arrived. Christening the new glass with Mango Waterbeach Weisse by Pastore. Fitting beer on a hot ass day.

Dark beers are sometimes light and refreshing. Here is a perfect example, Metropolitan Brewing's Magnetron Schwarzbier Lager. This clocks in at 5.5%, light on its toes but packs a lot of flavor, a great way to start the day!

It is most definitely a perfect Summer morning, can't beat 69 degrees and sunny any time of year.

Check with me later today as the temps are supposed to break 90, though thankfully without much humidity (under 40%) which works for me.

An ambitious me wants to hit one of the 14 breweries opened in Chicago, may stay indoors at home instead and wait for slightly cooler temps next week. I'll check back later either out and about, or cowering indoors waiting for the evening.

Hope you all have perfect beers today!

Short's Hopricot Sour. Excellent kettle sour. Great lasting fluffy head retention/foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big juicy/tart/tangy apricots, fruit fuzz/skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bready malts; hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang; and light herbal/grassy bitter/spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, lactic acid, fruit tang/tannins, and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing acidic/tangy dryness; no pucker/astringency. Very refreshing, not overly lactic, zero warming 6.8%. This is one of their better ones. Getting just a hair of Brett funk, but it might be the hops. Sourness is super CLEAN. Damn I'm glad I got the 6 pack for sure. Took me 5 months to get to it but sours don't care.

Good day BAs! Off to a decently warm start today - we got enough rain overnight to wet the road where tree leaves didn't interfere. Good thing I watered the garden yesterday. So far this year we've had two different black rat snakes visit - both sleek, fat, and happy. Mrs. Lizard protests their presence but I welcome them - they go where the food is and if they're here, then that means they're eating rodents that live in the yard and garden. Now if they were eastern diamondbacks or dwarf rattlers, then I'd be a bit less enthusiastic. Anyway, today's New Breakfast Beer:

Thanks, it's not a typical Chicago street / neighborhood. Our lots are bigger and we are not on the city street grid. My neighborhood, Norwood Park, was one of the last neighborhoods annexed into the city in 1893, or over 20 years before anyone from my family on either side immigrated to Chicago / the United States.

The closest brewery is easy walking distance, Une Annee / Hubbard's Cave, since they moved to their new space. Sadly for them, it closed within days of the opening due to the statewide Rona lockdown, but they are still selling and shipping beers.

Sadly for Ozzylizard, the yellow house to the right is for sale but not the brick one. I'll let you know if it is listed in the future.

    Cheers!

#4 is Common Rave, by very local brewery Elmeleven. It’s a Berliner with raspberries, passionfruit and vanilla, and it’s excellent.

All caught up on reviews, I’m now watching one of my all-time favorite shows:

    I slept in this morning...dogs walked/fed, kitchen cleaned...coffee time - CBS:

Bottled 10/3/19. Poured at 57°. Plenty of coffee left, but sticky sweet maple is center stage. Love the 12oz format.

If the rain passes us by, I’ll move the RV into the driveway and finish cleaning/prepping it for our first road trip this summer. Nothing exciting, a day’s drive to SC to visit sister-in-law, then a day’s drive to visit my brother in WV. I Doubt we will be able to do much of anything in between, but it will do Mrs. Z good to get out of the house. Have a fantastic Friday y’all!

Jay and silent bob related story

One time my friend and I, he is tall lenky with long blonde hair. I am shorter. Husky. Long hair and beard.... drinking out late and took a walk to dominos at midnight. He’s obliterated and tries to buy one slice. I tell him it’s dominoes you can get two pies for $12 dickhead. He says no fuck that and argues and we get kicked out whatever. I’m standing outside smoking a cig and he’s still at the door lookin in. He’s like yo E there’s this chick in there I’m gonna get her number. I tell him the doors locked chill out lemme finish the boge and we’ll be out. He starts banging on the door freaks the girl out she runs to the back. His dumb ass in all infinite wisdom goes around the building to knock on the back door. I stay up front because fuck him and his ideas. I go take a piss in the alley and hear sirens. So apparently after they kicked us out they were counting out the drawers. They mistook him knocking on the back door as a threat because of this. I yell “ you fuckin idiot I’m outta here” I take off because I had a bloody nose on the walk back and thought it was funny to blow blood all over myself and I had my biker kutte on and covered my face n shirt with dry blood. Home base is like 5 blocks away. I look behind me and he’s running too. Thru yards over lawns there’s three cars flying down the road. This is a small shore town In NJ so I assume everyone was coming. They drive right past us. I run up the road. My room mate goes yo we’re you guys running from the cops? Lmao. Anyways the next day I go and apologize and on his behalf as well. The manager was cool but he was like that was you? Yea we were counting out the register and there was knocks on the back door so I called the cops and said there’s two jay and silent bob looking guys outside acting weird lmao Al was wearing a beanie and coat again has long blonde hair. Im smaller long hair beard and backwards hat at all times. I explained the situation about he was hammered and trying to get a girls attention who worked here we didn’t intend on problems. He was cool he said hope the police didn’t give us probs. And that is how and why everyone called me silent bob for years.

    end story. Cheers.

Jeez, rolling right along this AM... about time for a PSA that is actually, I guess, of little service.

    Can you read?
    Do you like beer?
Do you actually take time to read?
Do you have a few favorite beers?
Can you comprise a list, as I have with these questions?

If so, then feel free to join us tomorrow for a theme day on WBAYDN #2800 for Books & Brews where you can let the internet world in on your preferences.

This AM's beer for me is a lighter offering - crisp with some apple and very light pepper:

It gets even more in depth when you learn that I Clerks 2 when the shop is on fire and there’s that side shot of Brian o’hallarans face in awe, you can see in the background the house on the far left was my fathers house when I was younger. And that entire situation was very similar to a hypothetical jay and silent bob type situation. :beers:

Happy Friday to everyone. I decided to get into some German beers today and I must say it was a good choice. This Reissdorf Kolsch has turned out to be my favorite of the Kolsch's I've tried. A fine example of German brewing precision. The head retention on it is phenomenal! In case you're wondering, the glasses were perfectly clean, Atlanta humidity plays havoc with outdoor pics. Cheers everyone! Hope you have an awesome Friday and enjoy some great beers.

Also tried Fruh Kolsch. Excellent easy drinking beer. Head retention was not as good on this one, but did not at all detract from the joy of drinking it.

It’s Friday lunchtime which means Mr. Tran is here to do the lawn...my gardener is a funny, friendly fellow who came here from Vietnam as a kid in the ‘60s...we are about the same age, and he can’t wait to retire and finish living out his/family’s American dream, however that may play out...I like him and I’m happy our journeys have crossed paths...
