It's a very warm muggy day in the Philly burbs. I'm having a hazy pale ale from Vault called Of Hops & Clouds. It's a quality beer from a local brewery in Yardley, PA. Hoppy & fruity and packing a lot of flavor for a 5.5% beer. I'm going to keep an eye out for more beers from Vault.

My first Sea Quench Ale from Dogfish Head. An interesting use of Black Lime. Seems appropriate:

Drinking some Nordic Lean from Stillwater and Lervig right now. A little past it's prime, this is a lost and found beer. Forgot I even had this, and I found 2 bottles left.. At least I already reviewed this fresh, and it seems it was better than right now, cuz this doesn't smell or taste very good anymore. IPA with blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry juices, lactose, and brettanomyces. I think the brett took hold after a few years. Funky leathery tart aroma, could taste worse though, at least you can still taste the dark berry juice. Cheers!

Ommegang Pale Sour after a fairly hefty bike ride. Like Boulevard, which I mentioned a couple of days ago, Ommegang has made a fairly serious effort to establish and maintain a foot hold in the Ontario market. I have accessed about half a dozen of their beers here, including Hennepin, Three Philosophers and a few of the Game of Thrones releases. A brewery that has yet to disappoint me. Cheers.

Mid afternoon cellar dive. Forgot I had this one, which is three years out of date and five years old overall, give or take a few months.

So Boulevard's Rye-on-Rye is a rye ale aged in Templeton rye barrels, I've had it a few times a right bit fresher than this. This bottle started with a minor slow volcano of suds that were expected and mostly caught in this first pour. A few particles were seen below, but atop, the creamy beige head maintained pretty well.

Oxidation is actually very light. It seems the rye in the beer dominates the bulk of the taste, which is a caramel-to-toffee like malty beer that is somewhat reminiscent of a Dubbel, though with a little more strength.

The barrel influence comes in muted strength from the sides and a bit in the back, coming in as a very nice accent. I seem to recall more potency in fresh bottles - more bite, more heat, etc - but am not complaining about the mellowing I'm perceiving. The beer is quite enjoyable as it is, a pleasant surprise at its age, it's held up pretty well.

St.Bernardus Tokyo. An unfiltered ale, brewed with a large amount of wheat, holding the middle between a white beer and a saison.

So, it is not just the white Bernardus in a modern can. But a remake of a one-off brew from 2012 that was produced on the occasion of the opening of the first St.Bernardus-themed café in the Japan.

@Shanex I found some Blanche de Namur together with Blanche Chouffe today.

    Cheers all!

Back from the hardware store...Jr. Z has decided that he’s going to live at home for another 3 months, to see how he likes his new job that starts Monday...And he’s still waiting to hear from UF about grad school. In the meantime, we’re finally getting around to fixing up his bedroom so it has more space, a desk, and is more “him.”

I’m taking the rest of the afternoon off...Style tic on BA for me #104 - Crooked Stave’s “St. Bretta Citrus Saison”:

Pours pale gold with good clarity; one finger of fairly fast one inch white dome; poor cap retention; thin ring; spotty lace at best. Lemon fruity earthy funk yeast nose. Sour lemon ball candy up front; lemongrass and cloves; coriander finish. Light body, crisp feel, moderate carbonation. Overall I like; light and refreshing; sour lemons with just enough Brett funk to make it interesting.
