I'm at a pretty steep disadvantage. I'm using single coils (it was a Strat with trem or a Les Paul and no trem. I chose the trem), I'm not using a Floyd Rose, I don't actually know how it's properly played, and I'm using 11 gauge strings. I bet if I throw some 9's on something with a locking trem, I could pull it off much better. Eh. I think it's passable.

Or maybe i should get off my high horse and just look up the damn tabs!

Another new beer, by way of a super trade with @imtroy703, Southern Grist House of Dreams.

Poured cellar temp to a tulip glass. Menacing opaque brown body, with a pencil thin head that burns away completely. No lacing per se, but heavy drops that don’t move. This stout looks thick...we’ll see soon enough.

The nose is exactly as the bottle says: coffee, blueberry, vanilla. The first sips are exactly as the bottle says, plus some heavy, dark, chocolatey malts holding them all together. Mouthfeel matches the immobile droplets on the glass...thick, syrupy. There is balance among the vanilla/berry sweetness, coffee, and malts, but make no mistake, they are all very dominant and bold flavors. You won’t need a refined palate looking for nuances of anything. No alcohol burn, but there is a warming effect.

This is easily a meal replacement, which is perfectly reasonable considering it’s an oatmeal stout.

This all said, I wish local brewers would venture more into imperial stout and barleywine country. Most everyone is on the fruited sour kick or the hazy NEIPA kick or the anything but stout or barleywine kick...this is the Buffalo, NY region. You know, home of the Blizzard of 1977, the ice storm of whenever....make some hearty beers you sissies!

Duvel single. I dont taste the citra but the pear, banana and cellar floor make up for it. Such a great beer.
