I don't have my kids today, and I love Halloween. It is a beautiful day. Here is why I am not giving out candy today, during a pandemic. The last couple years I experienced lots of cars pulling up to my block that did a clown-car of having like thirty kids emerge from a Honda Civic, that were apparently all instructed to walk only on grass, and specifically, to throw candy wrappers on my lawn. Also, large groups of teenagers coming up saying, "We don't have costumes, but can we have candy?" I closed all the shades today. The doorbell has not made a sound. I looked out of the window. Full clown-cars of kids everywhere! Apparently they are being mindful of participation like never before. I kind of feel bad now. What is your experience, BA?

    Fuerst Wiacek (Germany) - Polychrome.

I have a love-hate relationship with NEIPAs. If I drink too many of them, they start to get on my nerves, if I swear off them, I start to miss them after a while. Anyway, this is certainly a great reintroduction to the style that's hazy, juicy and with a nice mouthfeel, while being quite focussed on the zesty citrus notes, with only much lighter tropical accents and hints of dankness and pine

Four Fathers The Gadget Milkshake DIPA (mango, lactose, vanilla bean). Great local brewery. Dense, creamy, and full of mango and vanilla. Get a bit of hop bitterness on the finish, which I like. Happy Halloween BA!

Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery -- German Chocolate Cake

    3.75/5 rDev +3.6%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Garnet colored body; clear; thin yet lasting off-white head. Interesting blend of toasted grains, maraschino cherries, roasted nuts in the smell; mildly sweet. Toasted grain and light caramel flavor; roasted nuts; cocoa powder; very little hop bitterness. Medium-heavy body; dry stickiness on the palate.

Not bad for what was intended. The cocoa and nuts come through, and the vanilla now that I think about it. It doesn't have the richness or depth of a German chocolate cake, so don't expect that per se, but has some semblance to the cake. A bit more malt richness and depth would help. Still, a decent enough novelty, but not a great doppelbock.

Told you I was going to get to a stout paired with a whisky after the gueuze. I gave Mrs. snaotheus the responsibility of selecting a whisky to go with 2016 Fremont Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Star. I kind of was hoping for a cask strength selection, but it turns out the Gouden Carolus Single Malt is a really interesting pair with this beer.

With inspiration from @Reef, guys, am I at least in the same sport as @impending, or do I need to step my emotiinal beer art game up monumentally? I have always been a Women and Children First VH fanatic. I cannot explain specifically why.

Been too long that I've been away from these threads, been living with family and barely having beer for months (which has been great for my waistline)... so I'd say I've earned a few tonight. Hope everyone is having a great Saturday! Cheers!

I sorta feel bad also, but lotsa the same. We live on the border with Cleveland, and about 4-5 years ago, we started getting van loads of kids getting dropped off. Also, adults coming up with pillow cases and no costumes. So we bailed...

A very hoppy "harvest ale", the brewery was not taking any chances: on the brewery's website this ale is referred to as a red IPA, while on the bottle it is called a "hoppy red ESB ale." In any event, it is a very flavorful, piney, and citrusy amber/red ale.

Transient Lagger. A really good Helles. Went with some good friends to Transient today. Had a Berliner with peaches, apricot, vanilla, lactose, and apple cider and a barrel aged stout aged in Blanton’s barrels with vanilla and coffee. Both beers were outstanding. Their stouts, sours, and IPA’s get all the attention, but their lagers are just as good.
