What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #2961

First Bourbon County today, 2017 Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout. Full review posted in the Bourbon County Online Tasting Thread running through Sunday.



This was a most excellent coffee stout, slight pepper adding, not detracting, unexpected creamy rich maple syrup backing, roast coffee comes through after three years. Overall outstanding bottle and I'm glad I pulled this one today.

Saturday Morning Flashback was 1971 this morning, they played one of my favorites from the year which pairs nicely with this outstanding beverage.

Old Hickory Tropi- Can-Of. It’s supposed to be a fruity Tropical IPA, bursting with fruit. It’s not.

Hmmm, its not dated and I’ve never seen it before, OHB makes great beers but this one isn’t one of them. The only good thing to say there’s only 2 cans left out of 4. I hate it, I might just pour the other two out, I hate drinking beers I don’t like, and I don’t like this one. Hitting a grapefruit note or a pineapple note shouldn’t be so difficult these days, just a miss.

 

I don't get to do this often, but #properglassware! Enjoying an Abt 12 - one of the great beers of the world IMO. cheers

6th Review. Favorite local craft from OCEAN NJ, next door to AsburyPark.
As fine a DIPA as you can find.
a) hazed apricot flesh body with lively, lacing head.
s) Candied tangerine, papaya, orange, mango with a marmalade rind finale. A bit of French Bread Toast.
t) Flavor is that see saw between candied orange colored fruit and tangy bitter, with a background of fresh baked bread.
f) Silky, chalky, fresh, clean. (ocean indeed)
o) Deserves a blind taste vs strong DIPA line up, leans toward candied rind marmalade.

11th Review, my first of brewer, well done.
a) offers a clear golden straw sporting white head that lasts and splashes lace all the way round and down.
s) Very pleasing white fruit flesh, blossoms, citrus, pine and grassy dank notes atop white cracker malt.
t) Follow smell, but more citric and pine, rising to a bitter (but not overly) crescendo
f) Mid body, lively carbonation, fine finish
o) Like Alpine, fresh and pungent grassy, sunny brew.

This batch less than 30 days old (I Live in NJ) Sourced at BottleKing.
a) Gets spit polish look of bubble bath head that lasers lacee over a creamsicle haze body.
s) Needs some time to warm up.
t) Slightly soapy mars what is otherwise perfumey, peach, cherry, stone fruit. cedar wood, hemp, pine, suitable fall orchard for a november beer. But these are hops I'm newly encountering, all in the flower and body shop direction.
f) chalky, silky, pleasant.

 

Beer #3 is DDH The Light That Spills Out Of The Hole In Your Head. I’ve had the OG several times, but this ddh version is a marked improvement.

 

From last night: Landman, a gluten-reduced Brown Ale from Oil Horse Brewing in Longview, Texas, enjoyed while visiting my girlfriend.


This is a good ale, I can’t taste the gluten reduction. I had a chance to drink it while speaking with the brewer and proprietor. The brewing area is part of the taproom, so I was able to speak with him as he was preparing the mash for the next day. He invited me to help him brew today, but unfortunately I’m leaving today.

Anyway, great beer from a cool family establishment, cheers!

Dad got me a case of 2019 BCBS he found cheap for a anniversary gift!! He is my best friend and hero I’m one of the lucky ones.....cheers to the weekend....puff puff pass the BCBS

 

2 1/2 straight days of substantial rain here (right after I read a news report saying the Houston area is going into a drought ha, to be fair that doesn't negate a drought entirely).

Anyway, sipping on Brasserie Trois Dames Saison Brett. A really interesting sour Saison, with review over at NBW.



Reading an odd dark comedy by Iris Murdoch this rainy afternoon.

Viking Indiana Weisse: Peach, Pineapple, Passionfruit Berliner. The tart passionfruit and bacteria meld well with the sweet pineapple and peach. No fruit smoothie or slushee here, just a good clean fruited berliner.
