Good Sunday afternoon, everyone. It's a nice - but cool - day and I'm reviewing some local IPAs over on the NBW thread. First up is Stratospheric Rays of Haze, a New England IPA from nearby Untied Brewing, dry hopped with African Queen, Strata, Motueka, Amarillo, and Ekuanot. It's a variant of the brewery's flagship NEIPA Rays of Haze and it's very solid and enjoyable. Cheers!

    It was foretold...
This side-by-side went on for hours today lol... I was comparing...

    CBS, with a 10/14/19 bottling...
Uses Founders Breakfast Stout (oatmeal stout which features coffee and chocolate) aged in bourbon barrels that had previously had maple syrup in them... 11.3% abv... Really glad I came back to this - never had it aged a year before - way better than I remembered...

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge, with a 10/14/20 bottling...
KBS (imperial stout with coffee and chocolate), with the addition of Mackinac Fudge Coffee, aged in bourbon barrels... 11% abv... My current fave of the maple coffee stout set *if that's even a thing* lol - although year-old CBS is giving me cause to pause...

The CBS brings way more booze to the table - lots of bourbon and vanilla - thinner and tighter feel (not a detriment)... By comparison, the Maple Fudge KBS has a softer, fuller body and is loaded with chocolate... Both have ample maple and are fine drinks... I can't say one is better than the other (and the CBS has aged a year), but I can say that I enjoyed both far more than BCBS #4 (which featured bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup and coffee)...
--> Founders has a more reasonable price-point, too...

Alright, for the sheer mapleness of it, Better Half is happening now...
So this is Curmudgeon, an old ale, but brewed with molasses and aged in bourbon barrels that used to hold maple syrup... This particular bottle has a 8/28/18 bottling *pre-aged* This was another great return, just like the CBS - this is a different beer style, of course, but it totally out-maples the stouts lol - wow - and with a really rich bourbon and sweet fruit profile beneath... 12.7% abv... Great stuff...

    Cheers...

when my wife - who is not a beer drinker - called me from Stew Leonard's to ask me about Xmas decorations, I said "ooh look and see if they got any BCBS" - she replied " I already got you 2, what kind of lights should we get ?"........

Bro i had that past night and tasted nothing but melon. I did enjoy it as it didn't taste bad but it was just one dimensional. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well

Loft Life, a West Coast Style DIPA from Hackensack Brewing Co. This is the malty, English/Southern variant and it's really good! Nice balance of malt sweetness, tart lemon and grapefruit, and 70 IBU. You just don't see many beers like this in New Jersey and I appreciate Hackensack's brewing it. Good stuff!

Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Kentucky Fog Stout, 14.1% ABV. Pours black and thick, with a one-finger head that left no lacing. Nose is bourbon, honey, and tea, taste follows with some sweetness and light bitterness, with some bourbon burn. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. I'll adjust my review as it warms, based on other's observations. A tea beer is a bit odd, but it works. I'm liking it a bit more than the #4 Oatmeal.
