So my wife is working late tonight and when she comes home for lunch she usually leaves me a love note. No note today, now I’m wrecking my brain trying to figure out what I did wrong:grimacing:

DDH Dirtwolf from Victory. It's quite good, but IPA's aren't bitter no more. Doesn't anyone remember ibu's? It's cool tho, I'm grateful for a quality beverage. Cheers!

La Cumbre Brewing Co. -- Albus Quercus (farmhouse ale aged in chardonnay barrels)

    3.61/5 rDev +0.6%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Semi-cloudy peach orange body topped with a very fine and sculpted head; dense and spongy; tight rings of foam grace the inside of the glass. Dull, earthy sweetness; woody and musty; dried peaches. Syrupy sweetness; fruity; a mild citrus tanginess; bitter with farmhouse ale phenolic notes. Heavy body; some cloying sweetness; sticky.

I'm betting this beer is about five years old (2016) as the bottle neck tag mentions the brewery's 6h anniversary (they started operations in 2010. So, for an old, unrefrigerated beer, it ain't bad for what it is.

No bottle dating information; poured at 49° F.

#2, I sought this for quite a while, glad I finally got to try it. It is really fresh - and available in an AIRPORT!!! - and more than worthy of all the beer nerd love it receives. Exceptionally well done.

Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup: (Correctly identified 2 out of 3 pairs in the blind test)

    1) Castle Danger's Castle Cream Ale (5.3%): A cream ale from Minnesota with mild flavors of cream and honey. Slight vanilla. Subtle, but creamy and drinkable.
    versus
    2) Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat (5.3%): A cherry wheat ale from Massachusetts with strong aromas and flavors of candied cherry. Sort of like a cherry Blow-Pop... A cherry pie if I'm being kind.

    3) Insight Brewing's Hop Drop Double NEIPA (8.3%): A double dry-hopped imperial IPA from Minnesota with intense flavors of orange citrus, tangerine, and resinous blueberry. Some hop burn, but leans sweet.
    versus
    4) Elysian Full Contact (8.8%): An imperial hazy IPA with flavors of peach, strawberries & cream, honeydew and more vanilla cream. Sort of like a milkshake IPA.

    5) DESTIHL Moonumper (6.1%): A milk stout from Illinois with strong notes of dark chocolate with a creamy and malty finish. Balanced.
    versus
    6) Deschutes’ Obsidian Stout (6.4%): A dark stout from Oregon with strong notes of dark chocolate, dark malts, espresso roast, and smoke. One of the darker stouts I've had.
    (misidentified these two blind)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    1) Castle Danger Cream Ale
: This cream ale has mild aromas and flavors, but extremely drinkable and delicious. The cherry wheat was overpowering with the cherry.

    4) Elysian Full Contact: This was an interesting blend of an IPA and a cream ale. Maybe a milkshake IPA, but the creaminess made it extremely drinkable. On the other hand, Insight's beer was nice and juicy, but overly dry-hopped with some burn/fatigue.

    5) DESTIHL Moonjumper: Late in the season for stouts, but this is an excellent milk stout. Nice dark chocolate flavors with a creamy milk stout quality to balance it out. Both good beers, but it was more balanced than Obsidian Stout.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you tried Sam Adams Cherry Wheat and did you think the cherry was overpowering?
Have you tried Elysian Full Contact and did you think it was a good imperial IPA?
Have you tried DESTIHL Moonjumper and what did you think of the milk stout? Is it too late in the year to drink a stout?

Oldest daughter used to live close to Final Gravity so I had opportunities to visit the place. Since she moved I have not been to Final Gravity. Got the growler from a local bottle shop nearby.

The whole brewery scene in Scotts Addition and around it is really great.
