Today is the great Elvin Jones birthday. He would be 94, one of the all time, if not THE greatest drummer ever. Spinning all Elvin all day today. Got some more obscure albums he played on, of coarse Coltrane, and one of my all time favorite live shows coming up...

First up is a two week old Lunch, holy molly this is fantastic. Spinning the masterful Outback by Joe Farrell. One of the great CTI albums of the 70's, with a small group featuring Chick Corea, Buster Williams, and of coarse Elvin Jones.

 

Enjoying Olde Mecklenburg version of a Hefe called Hornets Nest. Love the yeast strain they use, imparts those phenolic flavors you get from the classic Hefe's from Germany.

Currently streaming a Sirius XM program from Labor Day Weekend from their Classic Cassette station - "40 Cassettes turning 40 (years old)". Listeners voted on this and so far a pretty legit lineup with The Kinks "Destroyer" kicking things off!

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale of coarse...spinning Wayne Shorter's Blue Note debut (original stereo pressing ha) Night Dreamer from 1964. With both McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones. Also Lee Morgan and Regi Workman.

 

Light Hearted.....to get started.....

 

It was a nice place. The selection was a bit more eclectic than I expected, but could well be normal for them. I liked what we had, Arthur most of all, the sip I had of Charlie the least. Wished they had George available, but oh well. Where some of the “special” happens (anyone think Lego Emmet when they read that?);


Stopped by Lost Nation on way back, gonna sample a few - Petite Ardennes first, Saison Lamoille next. No Wind on tap, but haven’t checked any to go possibilities, yet (though the board doesn’t list it):

Having a Kiwi after dinner/cleanup. Made a batch of chili today, felt like the perfect day for a bowl. Added some smoked ghost chili powder for heat. And yes, I added some beans for fiber.
