Yeah, those are the people who win. I'm a stout chunky-monkey-beer-hominid. Goal would be to just FINISH on two feet.

 

Was Radio Repair for 22 of my 26 years. Had a chance for a Jump School assignment later in life & said " Russ, you are too old for this S&%t

 

He tried it at 37 & bailed at the 60 mile point. He just didn't get the chance to train up that year

I am now undiscombobulated and seeing that neither of my games is a disaster yet. In fact, both my teams should have leads at the half.

 

Been a while. The first college football Saturday I've had to just relax with some beers and watch the games.

Started off with a Luz De Oro from Brewjeria. Described as a Pils-Near, it's an ale brewed with Kviek yeast.




Followed by a Fulanita from Brewjeria. A Berliner Weisse brewed with strawberries, pineapple and dragon fruit.




Now chilling in the backyard with this

 

Prairie bourbon paradise. Yeah that’ll do the trick

 

Wow that’s a lot of cinnamon.

 

Aaaah screw it. I'm joining Club Dark Beer and Club Raul tonight.

Great version of this tune - one of my favorite tunes. Paul Carrack gets second billing here but he's really the star.

 

I just witnessed @eppCOS make his entrance into Club Raul. He wore an all lime-green ensemble. He certainly has a flair for the dramatic.

Switching things up with this Belgian ale. It’s tasting fantastic.

 

Surly 13. Maple BA Stout w/ Vanilla & Lactose.

I’m a huge Darkness fan but this Surly stout was a little bit of a letdown. The mouthfeel and the vanilla are perfect but the maple & lactose make it far too sweet. Without the lactose this one would probably be just right for my taste. Amazing presentation with the little box. Cheers

The beer is listed as a “Marzen style lager” on the can and on BA.


BA Review Score: 3.95

In retrospect, I think a score of 3.95 is pretty fair. I think it’s close to or right around a solid B. I’d be hard pressed to give it any higher than a B unless I am comparing it to other beers. Of the 5 total Oktoberfests I have had this year so far, this isn’t the worst, but it’s also not my favorite. I’d probably say it’s right in the middle. This beer did make me go fry up a Knockwurst and a Bier bratwurst, though. Spicy bratwurst mustard ready.

I need to know before I first buy a single or a 4-pack. Are we talking well-incorporated cinnamon, or hot-cinnamon. I haven't had *that* many cinnamon beers, but Prop 14 was very good...

 

Tavour picked up, and made an Ohio beer run.

Smog City BBA O.E. Barleywine.

Poured cool to a Glencairn glass. Cold is ruddy copper, with a half-finger off-white head that burns down to a fairly persistant lacing and ring. Nose is a bit of caramel, bourbon, and some 1970s velvet…hey, come up with your own profile if that doesn’t make sense! First taste brings a fair amount of caramel and sweet malts, followed by some fresh, biting bourbon and wood. I’d say it tastes like it came out a wet bourbon barrel with that sort of bite. As it warms, there’s more stone fruit on the nose, and a lot drier finish in the taste. It starts to remind me of a mellow bourbon, though not at full bourbon strength. Later in the taste, there’s a strong hop linger. This is complex, with many changes over a relatively short time. I only had 1 oz of Utopias, but for some reason that comes to mind, though this is not THAT complex, and has much more hop bite at the end. Alcohol has a bite, but not astringent or distracting; no warming, which wouldn’t be a bad thing on the deck tonight.
