Yesterday I was out shell fishing, today it’s flurrying. Welcome to New England.

I have a few nice stouts in my fridge that I got from some BA buddies but I went with this one because it’s a little lower abv. I didn’t want to peak to soon before the game.

Didn’t have time to post right away, but here’s what we were drinking!

 

Surly's Darkness Midnight Manhattan.............Very good, nice subtle dry and sweet orange and cherry flavors, on a big bitter stout.

 

The vanilla in this turned my stomach
Anytime alesmith puts vanilla in their stout it ruins it for me . I should have read the label thoroughly . Someone should tell them that there is NOTHING Double fudgy about vanilla , it dominates any smell /taste of chocolate or coffee
1.5/5 wouldn't bang again

 

Hoppy Superb Owl Sunday all. Starting my brew day off with a hit from @Whyteboar , Frootwood from Founders. Bourbon and maple dominate, while cherries provide balance.

One of my favorite Jack Dejohnette recordings, with Richard Beirach. Also, one of the better ECM albums, which is saying something.

Live Oak Primus, oh yeah.


You can't really find many ECM album cuts anywhere, so here is a similar band with Beirach, DeJohnette and David Holland on bass.

With a new Medianoche order to pick up soon I figured it's time to start ridding the fridge of some prior releases. The OWA barrel aged stout is a good place. Aged in 6-8 year old Weller wheated bourbon barrels for over 22 months. Thick and oily with warming bourbon, dark chocolate, maple, dark cherries and prominent oak in the finish. Super cheers my virtual barflies!

Can dated 11.18.21, opened 2.13.22, poured into a. Spiegelau glass

Brewers Notes: This Double IPA is brewed with Azacca, Mosaic, and Citra hops; throwing out absurd amounts of tropical fruit flavors. Mango, grapefruit, and pineapple are most prominent.

Dark orange liquid, frothy , rollicking two finger off white foam cap , good retention , settles to a solid island

Aroma is tropical fruit, pineapple, mango,

taste is tropical fruits, mango, grapefruit, citrus

Hop taste , no bite

Again doing a bad job of keeping the drinking to only Friday & Saturday but it's Superbowl plus hockey and basketball on today!

Eyes were bigger than the stomach last night, so the Nugget Nectar I poured got put in the fridge, so finishing that off as I make some cheese dip to bring to my folks later


Opened an Urquell while getting the smoker fired up. Fun fact, the can did not fit in the coozie


Dips on and the leftover got stuffed into some poblano's

Beginning this super bowl Sunday watching some great golf and opening strictly heavy hitters. A little too much going in from the barrels in this one, a little muddled. Still quite enjoyable though. Cheers.
