Sounds like that beer gave you “ stink mouth” second cousin to “ stink eye”

Most definitely STINK mouth!! Sucked because I was actually looking forward to trying it again since it's been a couple of years. If I find some that I can validate the freshness of, I'll try it again. But 8 months of age on that beer is not kind, maybe it's just me. Regardless, the problem has been eliminated and I'm off to new horizons.

Hit a locally brewed doppelbock this afternoon.

    Very tasty stuff.

Interesting that the WP cans now say Newman Lake on them. They've always been brewed there, on the owner/head brewer's family's farm, and then kegs get trucked into Spokane, but in the past that hasn't seemed to have been emphasized. OTOH, they've been beefing up their packaging, visually, in a way that might indicate plans to actually distribute cans beyond the tasting room. Interesting.

Friend of mine was posting on fb today about a meal at a local restaurant that involved clams, so, of course, I went here:

@TheIPAHunter Really fortunate and blessed to be able to get this shah pretty fresh on a regular basis, it's been a beer fridge staple. And a big congrats shout out to Mr. "Have No Faith In My Hawkeyes" @The_Kriek_Freak  on a BigTen Championsip!

Watching the NCAA big dance pairings with a can of old faithful. College basketball is my most favorite sport on the planet and love this time of year!

Enjoying the later sunset but the clock change screws with my head for a few days. Time for a beer while making dinner.

Wolfe’s Neck. An IPA brewed by the Maine Beer Company. A tad bit pricey in my neck of the woods but definitely worth it.

Crisp, clean, and refreshing. Their is a gentle malt flavor throughout with a finely balanced hop bitterness, balanced and delicious.

Exile Citra Sky. Previously, Heaven Hills Straight Bourbon. My tast for good Bourbon, Scotch and Whiskey is growing like craft beer years ago. Pairing Citra Sky with a La Aurora Maduro on a nice Spring eve.

    How is it going BAs?

Going with a big, boozy (13.6% ABV), barrel-aged beer this evening. Not sure what style this is, since the label reads: "Special Ale aged in assorted barrels for an ideal amount of time". The best description ever. It does say on the side, which barrels were used: "Rye whiskey, Bourbon, Sherry".

As far as what style of beer this is...In my opinion, it's either an English Barleywine or English Barleywine mixed with an Imperial Stout.

I miss the OG bottle, as well as the original can. This can is close enough and, thankfully, the contents inside remain unaltered. Peace to that. Peace to good beer. But what about Peace, Hunter? Peace...

    Schilling Birra Portico Italian-style Pilsener.

    From pint can marked121421 004901505

Pours into my pilsen glass a slightly hazed straw shade with a foamy 3 finger cream colored head.

Scent is citrus and bread with sweet candy and gumball notes.

Taste is citrus and fresh bread. Light bread crust. Crackers. There's a classic German sort of hop bittering with a lovely dry finish. But there is also a (dry hopped?) array of fruity and citrus hop flavors here which overtake the crisp light malt bill. I get lemon, lime and and a faint suggestion of tropical fruit even and the candy-like sweetness of the nose accentuates the flavor.

Mouth is a very quenching dry light to medium with a light effervescence.

A light easy drinking quenching Italian style pilsener with a delightful palate of hop flavor and aroma. Lots going on but cohesive and easy drinking.

    NBS cross post
NBS # 2 is one I couldnt find in RI but CT had it.
    Smuttynose Double DIPA.
Pouring a golden amber, off white head receding to a thin cap with nice lacing. The smell is a little dissapointing - fairly muted notes of grapefruit, earthy pine and subtle hints of tropicals.
Taste is orange, pine and grapefruit.
Oily at mid palate and drying on the mono finish. Nothing complex here, which is what I expected but the malt base isnt enough to support this bitterness out. Was expecting a little darker sweeter malt. Its medium to heavy/medium in body with shots of alcohol in the mix. Just barely evades a syrupy feel. Decently carbonated. Hits all the right bitter notes for a WC leaning DIPA theres just something missing. Its decent but not something I would seek out again. Worth a try.
Honestly I think I prefer Finest Kind better.[IMG]

I had a almost year old one in my fridge that I tried recently and it sucked. I think it’s like Jai Alai when it’s fresh it’s great, but it drops off fast.
Something similar happened to the packy I was going to in Framingham. It got bought out and the “craft beer” section shrank and gave way to more seltzer, Corona and Bud Light. Know your audience I guess.
The good beers they had in the cooler were always way out of date.
I like TW only for the fact you rarely find old beer there unless you go to the mix your own 6 pack shelf. Bottoms up!
