Another from the smol Kulshan haul my buddy Justin gave me yesterday, Full Send Robust Porter. Good beer, even though the roast is a bit too coffeeish for me.

You ever try that next to an oatmeal stout? I tried it after having DarkStar Oatmeal stout and the chocolate flavor came off as artificial as hell and i haven't gotten it since. Same with KBS, way too chocolate but i Love Espresso KBS and thibk they should make that KBS :nerd: but im an asshole and everyone hates me so:heavymetal::heavymetal::heavymetal::heavymetal::whale::whale::whale::popcorn::poop::poop:

Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Fair State Pils (5.1%):
A German-style pilsner from Minnesota with flavors of lemongrass and crackers malts. Bitter and yeasty for a full mouthfeel.
    versus
    2) Surly’s Hell Lager (5.0%): A zwickel-style beer from Minnesota with strong flowery and yeasty flavors with light lemon notes. A strong, grainy finish.
    (mismatched these two blind)

    3) Revolution's DDH Revolution Hero (7.7%): A NEIPA from Chicago with flavors of orange, grapefruit, tropical berry, and some faint pine notes. Slightly resinous.
    versus
    4) Hubbard’s Cave Hopsurd DDH (7.5%): A NEIPA from Chicago with flavors of tropical peach, papaya, and berry notes. A soft and creamy mouthfeel.
(Correctly matched these two, Identified 1 of the 2 pairs blind)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    1) Fair State Pils
: Hard to beat Surly Hell lager, and maybe it doesn't as they warmed, but initially this one had much more bitter and lemongrass notes. A very flavorful German Pils.

    4) Hubbard's Cave Hopsurd DDH: More top-notch haze from the Chicago area. So many great flavors here of tropical peach and papaya. The mouthfeel is delicate and soft. Both IPAs were fantastic, but this brewery goes a step beyond. Available around the northern midwest, try Hubbard's Cave if you see it.

Not a repeat purchase for me, but I’m happy I got a 4 pack. This beer took forever to come to my area. I am absolutely on the opposite end from the folks who found the hopping subtle. It drinks like a thin and clean American IPA mixed with a hoppy German lager to me - which was kind of the point. I enjoy their flagship pilsner more. I’m enjoying it enough though. @steveh

Oh yes, the flagship Pilsner is still a long love of mine.

Do you get any stuff from notch?

Good timing with the shout-out -- found some of this today and hope to try it over the weekend.

Thanks for the insight, stay tuned for an opinion.

Life and Fate IX from Root + Branch. Fantastic. Some people slap haze or NEIPA on a can to generate sales; these guys don't have to go that route. Drink what you like, as always. Cheers!

Hey, an underutilized Nick Tahoe’s West on Lyell ave is 2 miles from where I work… every night this week I’ve had to drive toward RIT to pick up the kid,, thought I’d get cheeseburger and red hot plate… those garbage plates look just like they did in the early 1990s when you skateboarded downtown at 2am for your after-after-after feast

After work, wondered by Hugo's, best Mexican restaurant in town, well outside of Mr. Hugo Ortega's other restaurants (Xochi and Caracol). This was his first, and namesake restaurant though, and still around after about 20 years, which is an eternity by Houston restaurant standards (he won a Jame Bear award in 2017, and a three time finalist before actually winning)

    Some Taquitos to start.

And my favorite, Pulpo Al Carbon. Basically octopus tacos, with blue corn tortillas. Outside of Lengua or Barbacoa that you get from food trucks, these are probably my favorite tacos in town.

Ignore, or not the Margaritas in the background, beers and Miles coming up next
