Tonight’s Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

1) Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier (5.4%): A German Hefeweizen with flavors of light citrus, dry grains, wheat. Lightly spiced. A clean and crisp finish.
versus
2) Schneider Weisse Tap 7 (5.4%): A German Hefeweizen with flavors of orange citrus, bread spice, clove, bubblegum. A yeasty and spiced bread finish.

3) Tucher Brau Festbier (6.0%): A German Festbier with flavors of Munich bread malt, grains. Yeasty, dry, and lightly floral and bitter.
versus
4) Hofbrau Oktoberfest (6.3%): A German Festbier with flavors of earthy Munich malt, earthy honey, and a smooth, malty finish.

5) BlackStack HBC 755 HBC 586 (6.8% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with HBC-586 for flavors of orange citrus, tangerine, grapefruit, with some crisp pineapple. Dry and clean.
versus
6) Junkyard 70’s Rock Label (6.8% canned 7/5/2022): A NEIPA from Minnesota with HBC-586 for flavors of tropical pineapple, green melon, and kiwi and coconut flavors within. Relatively dry and clean.
(Mismatched #1 and #2 blind, otherwise the other correctly matched blind)

Winners:

1) Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier: This one has a slightly lighter body. I actually pegged the Schneider Tap 7 to havea bit more flavor. Darker and sweeter. A winter Hefe if you will. Both are fantastic. The delicate body of Weihenstaphaner balanced by the wheat and light citrus notes give it a reason to be a World-Class beer.

4) Hofbrau Oktoberfest: Hofbrau always seems to have that earthy Munich malt flavor that reminds me rural Germany on a rainy day. I don't know what it is. It might be light that seems to seep through the brown bottle. Just enough to give it a faint earthy flavor. Hofbrau was the first one to capture my attention to German beers, and still seems to drink among the best.

6) Junkyard 70's Rock Label: This is a nice showcase of the HBC586 hop which I'm not too familiar with. Gives it a little tropical note--kiwi, lychee, and coconut flavor. A little better when fresh, but still good now. This brewery is lesser-known, but puts out some quality.

Chili is still simmering, and yes, I added beans because I like them I'm fully aware of the no beans faction and I like it that way as well. But this batch has beans.

An added junk laden English Barleywine from Foreign Exchange called Evolutionary State......just about undrinkable, just too sweet.........

 

Oh, how i miss having an Old Chicago to hang out! Was a "Go To" in the early years of PHX craft beer drinking, could always get good beer and an excellent Pie. Have a neighborhood tasting Friday and am planning on rocking an old Fest Tour shirt from 2007. A friend and i would always joke about the amount of money we spent to get a prized OC shirt!



Meanwhile in 2022 enjoying a Palmetto Espresso Porter. I really like how much flavor is packed in the 6.0 ABV package!
