It's a large custom calf piece, two snake skeletons coiled around each other like the DNA double helix, black and gray, with a red apple in the middle. Unfortunately, it's still peeling a bit, so I'm on hold for another week to get it finished.

Really enjoying your Japan trip report @The_Kriek_Freak ! Hope you have a few more days. The tower looks like The Stratosphere. Did Bob Stupak build the Japanese one too?

The Beer Can Wall also had Las Vegas Silver Stamp vibes. :sunglasses:

Never seen this packaged before. Did you purchase at their brewery, or do they distribute? Allagash and Sacred Profane are my first two stops if I ever get back up to Maine.

Will return shortly with a beer, most likely the older BA stout that fell out of my refrigerator last night letting lose a half an ounce. Nice to see that carbonation held over the years.

Hello, advocates! Tons of early afternoon baseball today across the league, but I'm tuned in to the Grayson Rodriguez debut. Orioles at Texas. The rookie vs. deGrom. This is the sh*t I love. P.S. Pliny is pretty good, too. Cheers!

Manitou Brewing Co. -- Chipotle Rye Red
    Chili beer
    ABV: 5.0%; pouring temperature: 38 °F; crowler info: 5/26/23
    Source: brewery

    3.68/5 rDev 0%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Clear, red copper-colored body; modest amount of slow-rising carbonation; thin, patchy head; small bit of foam rings and patches inside the glass. Little aroma; a touch of malt sweetness and vegetal chili pepper character. Light taste of malt sweetness with a stronger chili pepper punch. Medium body; smooth and slick; excellent chili pepper heat.

A nice enough beer for a chili beer, but lacks much depth and complexity to bring it to a higher level. As the beer warms, there is not much growth in how the beer presents itself.

    Good evening Advocates,
another heavy working day has been completed... Now a well-deserved beer, under a gray sky and with clouds presumably full of rain:

Birrificio Pontino (Latina, ITA) - BLACK SWAN - Imperial Stout (9,5%)

9.5% Imperial Stout with the addition of Coffee, Cocoa, Coconut and Vanilla. Wheat is also present, in addition to the usual barley malt.
33 cl Can. On the label: "Lot: L023 - Best before: 01/2024".
On the nose toasted notes and vanilla.
Poured (in a decidedly vertical way) it releases little foam and minimal consistency (but I knew it, I've already drunk it), it doesn't make the "hat" of creamy foam that one would expect.
Nice to see the "nitro" effect given by the carbonation with nitrogen, as you have already said.
In the mouth, beer with a leaner body than one would expect and practically flat.
The taste, however, is very much to my liking: notes of espresso and toasted coffee that predominate, bitter hint of dark chocolate and at the end of the drink, vanilla emerges, in the right dose, with its sweetness to make the drink soft and pleasant, without spoiling .
Most likely I should have taken the can out of the fridge at least 15 min. before pouring it and starting to drink it (but I was thirsty...), in fact by letting it rest for a while in the glass, the light coconut notes also emerge and remain on the tongue in a pleasant contrast with the notes of roasted coffee beans.
In general, tasty beer with contrasts of flavors brought about by the ingredients that create a good harmony.
However, the gustatory balance, in my view, is not supported by a structure suitable for an Imperial Stout of this type and alcohol content: it lacks a bit of body and oiliness.
In any case, it remains one of my favourite productions of my friends from the Birrificio Pontino and has an absolutely stellar quality/price ratio.

I didn't get to stop by SP but it was available in Portland. I bought the pale as well. They recently just started distributing to Massachusetts.

Enjoying Drop-In Heart of Lothian from Vermont, a traditionally made Scottish 90-Schilling style ale.

    Hey BA'S

Busy day thus far; just finished mowing my grass for the first time this spring - before the rains started! Some other yard work, and cleaning out the spare beer fridge in my sunroom - gotta get ready for warm weather season!

This stubby Coors Banquet is hitting the spot....

    1) Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel (5.3%): A German Dunkelweizen with flavors of banana bread, bubblegum, orange citrus and spice. Yeasty and bready.
    versus
    2) Andech Weissbier Dunkel (5.0%): A German Dunkelweizen with flavors of fig, raisin, dark fruit, caramel, and overripe banana. Bready, soft, smooth, and creamy. (Mismatched the two blind)

    Winner:
    2) Andech Weissbier Dunkel:
I've done this battle before for these two great German Dunkelweizens. #1 and #4 on BeerAdvocate. Weihenstephaner has more yeast, citrus, and fruity flavors, but Andech has more of the smooth and rich caramel and bread flavors. I think I prefer the flavors in Weihenstephaner better, but Andech drinks with a better mouthfeel. Both are incredibly flavorful and complex.

This is an exciting game. The kid has settled down after a shaky first inning and, somehow, the Orioles have gotten to deGrom. Gotta love baseball. Gotta love Pliny. U gotta love it. Peace...
