Good day BAs! Getting to my coffee late this morning. Stayed up late last night watching horror movie with my beer friends in the town next door…”Ophidia” an Imperial Stout by Brew Detroit Brewery, courtesy of an IP trade with @Whyteboar last month:



Canned 11/17/23. Poured at 57°. Bitter roast malt and bittersweet dark chocolate. A solid stout. Thanks Craig!

Our small town is having a “Summerfest” this weekend with a car show today, evening band, and fireworks tonight. I’m going to try and go notwithstanding rains forecast…Cheers y’all and have a storm free Saturday!

PG4 - Tafel

 

Little House block party. They closed the street and we're drinking out of plastic. This is their birthday IPA 6 years.

 

Levain Blend No. 4, a tart but not overly sour wild ale from Is/Was.

 

1) Klosterbrauerei Andechs Vollbier Hell (4.8%): A German Helles with flavors of pale malts, earthy, grassy, German malts, and smooth honey. A relatively crisp and dry finish.
versus
2) Tucher Brau Helles (5.2%): A German Helles with flavors of smooth pale Munich malts, earthy honey, lightly toasted. Smooth. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner: Andechs Vollbier Hell
German Helles Battle. First is Andechs. One of my favorite German breweries. These guys don't make anything but the best. Floral, earthy, grassy, and smooth. Soft and incredible flavor and balance.
Next is Tucher Brau. Also a favorite. Slightly more sweet honey notes, slightly toasty and leans sort of like a festbier.
Andechs is truly incredible and on average their side-by-sides tend to beat out every other German brewer I put them up against.

Happy Saturday, BAs. I stopped by Autodidact Beer to buy cans and saw they tapped the last barrel of Dream House, the annual Summer DIPA and one my favorites. Probably my last till next year. Cheers!

 

I went with the Lexical Gap next. Their year round West Coast IPA, but with orange guava and pineapple added.

One of my favourite Saisons. A massive head. Maybe I should have poured into a pint glass. At least something with no nucleation.
