This is a nice beer from @russpowell from the stout / barleywine BIF #2. Social Project BA Sails of Charon with cacao, coconut, and vanilla. Barrel comes off with bright and sweet bourbon, which I guess as Willett.

P.S. upon googling, it’s Elijah Craig…I haven’t had many EJ, but this is quite delicious right from the start!

...many thanks to @LesDewitt4beer for hooking me up with very reasonable source for this beer...

    T & R Theakston Ltd. -- Old Peculier

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Very clear, dark amber color with the pour; appears a garnet hue color in the glass, nearly opaque. thick, long-lasting head, dense and spongy with a pale khaki color; thick, lasting rings of foam mark each sip inside the glass. Sweet scent with a subtle clove-like note; toffee maltiness. The taste picks up and amplifies the nose; rich, earthy sweetness; light brown sugar with light caramel and toffee elements; roasted nuts; mild underlying bitterness. Medium-bodied mouthfeel; rich and sticky on the palate; semi-sweet overall.

I used to drink this a lot back in the early to mid-90s in Maryland. While I can't objectively compare this new iteration with the past, I certainly enjoy this beer. For a relatively low ABV beer, this is rich and nearly decadent with its taste and mouthfeel. There is nothing overbearing with the beer, just an amazing depth and complexity for such an easy drinking beverage. This is just a world-class beer.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

...this is not an old ale in the classic sense (if nothing else, the ABV is way too low for that style)...the brewery's web site calls this a 'specialist ale' (whatever that means)...in any case, this is one beautiful and tasty beer...I noticed on the brewery's web site they also offer a non-alcoholic version of this beer...I'd love to try that, too...

...also, our first try at shakshuka turned out nicely...the pic is before adding the parsley and mint for the serving portions...

Whoops, forgot to reply last night!
Ended up drinking a Faxe 10% 500-something ml can. I didn't like it lol.

But thanks to everyone who welcomed me!

Tonight I’m transcribing with my 2008 Gibson Les Paul Studio. I’ve also got one beer I used to like from way back.

Looking Out for You from Anchorage Brewing

Label calls it a Double IPA with no mention of the New England style. The powerful aroma is pure orange peel, period. Quite sudsy in the mouth with that slippery raw grain feel. It's extremely sweet and candy-like yet acidic and woody. Overall this is harsh, gunky, and bitter with an unstoppable sweet orange taste. My last Anchorage beer ever, I predict.
