A tip of the cap to our own @LarryV as I enjoy a well earned post work Weihenstephaner Helles. Prost!

That style glass has become a favorite of mine over the last year. Tasty looking pour.

...just finished up some metal prep work in the 'Fortress of Solitude' and listening to old cassette tapes of mine (commercial -- e.g., Sugar 'Copper Blue' and personally curated mix tapes)...time to watch the weather roll in and commence the beer festivities...

    Revisited August 01st, 2025

Clear, pale yellow body with a very mild haze; good carbonation; thick and fairly dense white head, long-lasting. Nice, balanced smell; light biscuit infused with quiet fruity esters; pear. The taste follows along the lines of the smell; refined light malt backbone; a peppery hop flavor; a nice dose of hop bitterness rounds things out. Medium bodied; crisp and slightly prickly on the palate; semi-dry finish.

Well, other than the looks being knocked down a 1/4 point in the looks, this beer rates nearly the same as from last year.

It's sad when a great brewery closes its doors after a relatively short time. I was lucky to score a few more of their beers (while they last).

    4.25 4.0 3.75 4.0 4.0
    BA weighted overall score: 3.92
    rDev: +1.3%

Pours a soft, light yellow, mildly hazy; thick, frothy head, white and rocky. Outstanding scents of citrus and tropical fruits; a touch of oats. Muted citrus flavor; bracing bitterness bite; citrus rind; biscuit. Heavy body; light overall acidity.

It has been a number of years since I last had this beer. This OG India pale ale from TRVE won't be mistaken for the brewery's latest west coast IPA styles, and I don't see at an overall high level hazy offering, yet it is certainly pleasant enough. It's nice to go back and revisit old beers from yore.

I want to hate your right now but I just can't. I'm jonesing for one of those Weihenstephaner Festbiers! Can't wait to see them in the stores soon. I've been known to pour several into a 1L Maß just to pretend I'm there. :joy:

Well, since it is International Beer Day which I took as beer day, internationally recognized and not a day to appreciate international beers, so I am having a Dogfish Head beer, in a glass similar to how I would've enjoyed it over a decade ago when Chicory Stout was on tap at the local DFH restaurant.

You were right, @jonphisher - this is the can from the pack that is more of an oldie but goodie to me. Jet black, looking thicker than it feels (it is only just a tad over 5% ABV). Quite bitter with a little tang; I am not really noticing the licorice too much, maybe a little in the aftertaste.

Cross posting from the German thread...
I lost sight of today's brew Aecht Schlenkerla Erle (Schwarzbier) in the beer fridge. Picked it up back in April. This is really well made as the roasted malts chocolate flavor actually comes thru the smoke yet i get that nice smoked cheese flavor on the back of the palate. Very balanced and enjoyable at 4.2% abv.
Listening to some Dire Straits, always a pleasure to hear Mark Knopfler pick away.
    Cheers!

I've really enjoyed these Notch Helles. In contrast to Weihenstephaner, they are a bit lighter bodied and more crisp and dry. What a 1st class brewery out of MA!
