12 Year Anniversary IPA from Point Ybel Brewing Company, Ft. Meyers.

 

1) Kozel Cerny (3.8%): A Czech Dark Lager with flavors of dark grains, bread, caramel, and cocoa.
versus
2) Kostritzer Schwarzbier (4.8%): A German Schwarzbier with flavors of dark malt, cocoa, some roast. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Czech Dark versus German Schwarzbier. First is Kozel, a Czech Dark lager. My first try at this. Dark grains, smooth cocoa, almost a cocoa and lactose cream flavor you'd expect in a British oatmeal stout. Some adjuncts and caramel off the end. Smooth.
Next is Kostritzer Schwarzbier. Similar pour and aromas. More dark grains and a bit cleaner and more roast. Overall, more drinkable and easier drinking.
Winner: Kostritzer Schwarzbier

 

No reason to mix it up when this is tasting delicious

I'm sipping on this Hazy IPA from Cellarmaker out of Oakland California. I got it from Good Times Oakland. Rather typical of the style so I don't fancy it all that much.

Finally got out for a hike after a long hiatus this morning. Started in the low 30's and was quite comfortable halfway thru. Getting into Highland Brewing's BA Black Watch Milk Stout. The barrel does not provide a perceptible improvement and unfortunately thins the base beer a bit. Had to give it a try and while very good I'll stick with the base beer going forward.

Thank you Tom! I don't know about you but we've hit 65F plus the last couple of days and now I'm ready from some permanent warm weather. Something about the longer days and warm weather that give me a lift.

Yes, not a thing wrong with Black Watch. Can't blame them for trying the barrel but BW has very little room for improvement. Cheers!
