If it makes ya feel any better, this Deschutes/Hair of the Dog collaboration that I spent $18 on tastes exclusively like whiskey and if it doesn't get a little more graceful as it warms up, it may find itself with a ticket to Drain City. :flushed:

I have yet to open a single bottle of the 4 pack of DD that I bought. I'm almost afraid to. I'll most likely open one and then let the rest age to enjoy as more of a barleywine.

What was wrong with it for you?
I had this at @jzeilinger s last week and it was a growler that was somewhat flat, that aside it was just a lil too sweet for me.

I felt the same way about DD. My opinion was that Founder's attempted to stick as much malts and hops into one beer as humanly possible under the hopes that it would overwhelm your taste buds so horribly that you'd assume it was just good. I found it thick, cloying, syrupy, and just plain awful. I tried pawning it off on my girlfriend (also a total beer nut), but she couldn't do it either. Everyone else seems to rave about this beer. Oh well, you can't win 'em all.

I almost didn't put it on but I felt like I was doing a good deed. People are rating it really high. I felt like I wanted to be the oddball. I don't feel bad about pouring a beer.

God damn I love this beer. Enjoying this while having some alone time with one of the pups. I figured this was as good a beer as any to have while I wait for the fresh heady to get cold.

Good attitude. I used to get mad at "wasting beer," but my opinion has changed with age. Life is too short and livers are too sensitive to drink beer you don't really enjoy.

Amen brother! That is my first bad beer from them. I have liked everything I have had from founders but to be honest I am not a big fan of the triple IPA for the same reasons that I am not a fan of the imperial lager. I think think that at some point all that abv changes the nature of the style and it becomes too hard to drink.

I don't feel bad either, but for $18, I really wanted to like this Conflux no. 1... I just don't... The flavors are too dominated by a whiskey/bourbon character and, quite frankly, if I wanted to indulge in the flavors of whiskey, I wouldn't be drinking beer. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don't blame you. I mean I think that we can expect beer to actually taste like beer. It's not that mistakes are impossible. They happen. I like craft beer drinkers for the very reason that they experience the very human characteristic of making mistakes and they seem to take it in stride. You'll pour that beer if you choose to but it won't be your last beer. =)
