Had an interesting fantasy football draft combined with a beer tasting last night as a very, very lame birthday celebration. No pics, but I tried a few beers new to me: Yards Saison, Widmer Vanila Barrel-Aged Brrbon, Sam Adams Stony Brook Red, and Beer'd Crack-of-Noon.

Yards was a little too sweet and sugary, with a big banana note as well. Not bad, though. The Widmer wasn't too good; too medicinal and boozy. Stony Brook Red was almost like a sweeter, less tart version of a Flanders or Oud Bruin. I didn't think much of these three.

Beer'd's Crack-of-Noon, though, was delicious! It's an espresso amber ale, and it was super smooth. I didn't think the style would work; I'm used to coffee stouts, not coffee ambers. But damn, I was wrong!

Today, I received this in a little package, courtesy of @WesMantooth:

Saving it for New Beer Sunday!

OK, OK, so finally, the question at hand - what beer are you drinking now, as opposed to last night, or in the future - shall be answered.

While this isn't amazing, I have to say, I apparently like it a lot more than the average BA (+18.7%). It's got a nice tart sourness up front, but nowhere near as strong as with a wild/sour beer. The bourbon is fairly relaxed, but very present on the back-end. It's got a nice low ABV (for the style).

The only complaint I have is, well.....I'd like some more STOUT in my stout! It's pretty thin, and there isn't much going on with the roasted barley.

Plan on attending a Sixpoint tap takeover tonight. We'll see if a certain psychopath alters my plans, but for now, it sounds like a cool time. Here's to a 4-day weekend, BAs!

so i caught wind that there was a maine beer co. lunch delivery made today. i had to pound that dissenter i posted earlier and hopped in the car. i didn't get any lunch, but i did manage to score the last bottle of 'a tiny beautiful something' (maine beer co.) which was also delivered today.

so, while the beers i bought today are chilling in the fridge, i celebrate my failure to LUNCH with some BCBS.

    Stone Saison

What a classic take on the Saison style of beer. Typical Stone, they make such high-quality products. The front of the tongue gets such a jolt of spiciness and the rest of the taste smooths out, leaving a nice, peppery aftertaste. I wish that I had picked this beer up sooner when the weather was warmer. This is so refreshing, and it epitomizes this style of beer. 4/5

Evil Twin Nomader Weisse Berliner Weiss. I love the Berliner Weiss style and am always excited to find one available in six packs (because its so rare). A nice tart start, but it quickly fades. Disappointing finish. I don't often add syrup to my berliners, but this one needed something.
