Tart Fig...Saison.. Not sure if it's a saison. More like a tart fig dubbel or something. It's tasty for sure, whatever the hell it is.

Outperformed my expectations... which is kind of dumb, since Revolution does pretty much everything well, so I should have known it would be great. Worth seeking out for those who enjoy barrel-aged goodness.

I'm taking a 12 pack of Sam Adam's Oktoberfest to a garage poker game. They have a wood burning stove, so It'll be a little above freezing and the beer should keep me warm.

Also listening to Pink Floyd's new album, maybe it'll grow on me.

Great riffs and Tony Iommi is amazing. I can do w/out Ozzy's caterwauling, tho. Just me. My brother hates me for feeling this way. Feel the same way bout Ronnie James Dio.

Round two of the Miniature Big Beer Vertical taste test. This round pits 2014 and 2013 Sierra Nevada Narwhal!

Leaving the cellar, I banged my head right into the basement/cellar door (the outside, movie-style from tornado shelters). Of the four beers I had in my hand, one shattered...a 2013 Narwhal. That left me with exactly one left; exactly enough to do this test, and no more.

Aromas are very similar; both very hoppy, earthy, and filled with roasted barley, dark fruit, and cacao. The 2014 may be somewhat more prominent, but they're remarkably similar in that department.

Flavor? The 2014 doesn't disappoint. It's got a nice, smooth imperial stout flavor, with tons of roasted barley, a nice, smooth, chocolatey middle, and a roasted, even smokey finish. The 2013 is more chocolate forward right off the bat, but the middle and end are almost identical, focusing mostly on the roasted barley, and with that same smokey bite.

Hmmm. The 2014 has more of a bite, but that by no means implies that the 2013 is subtle. Reversing my opinion from the Backwoods Bastard experiment, I think I'm going to give the edge to the 2013, but to be honest, the beer has held up incredibly well in all respects, and it is really, really difficult to tell any difference whatsoever. (Unlike the BB, I doubt I would be able to tell which is which this time around.)

Switched off of Alice and onto Porcupine Tree...

    Cheers!
