From a little earlier in the afternoon; managed to negotiate an errand break and swing by Half Acre for a few beers with my wife.

Daisy Cutter is usually a highlight when I'm back to Chicago, but it's all new things today.

    Good. HA knows hoppy beers.

    Thunder & Son
Rich, huge swirl of spices and dark fruits, nice.

    And the highlight —
    — Shrub Tundra! Delicious coffee brown ale. Maybe one of the best coffee-into-beer integrations I've come across.

A bottle of Lukcy Basartd from my Bastard box. Good stuff. Stone's Bastard brews are pretty damn consistent. Decided to drink this one fairly fresh.

3rd annual T-day cellar raid. Grabbed quite a few out to drink over this weekend. Many 2+ year beers will be had.

    Starting off:

1/11/2008 batch code. Last one I randomly found(out of 2) at a hole in the wall liquor store 2 years ago. Huge raisin/fig/prune/date with caramel/molasses, dark/toasted breads and slight roast. A fair bit of oxidation but not bad at all. Reallly BIG on the dark fruits, and super smooth. This is outstanding.

12/29/2011. DEEP dark chocolate and coffee; with molasses, cocoa, and a bit of char/smoke. No real noticeable amount of dark fruit notes. All deep dark roasted malt flavors. Great bitterness/sweetness balance of roastiness. Huge slick/creamy mouthfeel. Delightful!

    Drinking a Saint Arnold Pumpkinator.

Because I read an article saying Joni Mitchel nicked a movie biopic about her in the butt that would have started Taylor Swift (good lord) I say cheers to that and have For the Roses spinning on the turntable:

Just as good as Blue and Court & Spark.

At least I had this waiting after the initial shovel...
