The yeast is a little overwhelming when at fridge temp, but as it warms it opens up nicely. Not at the level of the top-tier Belgians, but it's a solid American version.

Enjoying some more of the good local offerings while in Deutschland - these guys really got it together, considering I paid about a dollar each for probably the best hefewiezen in the world! Considering the price, I'd probably be an alcoholic if I lived here and could buy these for that price all the time :grimacing:

Happy thirsty Thursday, BAs; can't believe it's almost Friday. Got something special in reserve for this weekend.

First, though, it's liquid lunch time:

21st Amendment Fireside Chat winter warmer on cask. Chocolatey and fruity with a dry finish. OK, but nothing special.

Then, I convinced my buddies to go in with me on a wicked odd idea (inspired by a similar, but not identical, post on the forums). A blind flight; the bartender poured us three identical flights of four beers at random.

Because I'm a geek, I wrote down quick notes and guessed at each. Background: there are 39 beers on tap, and of these beers, it turns out I've had each one exactly once (although I didn't know that going in).

The circled one is the one I got wrong. Saranac's Imperial IPA is sweet, not particularly hoppy, and amber in color. It seriously threw me for a loop; I had no idea. Red Seal Ale was the closest guess I could come up with on tap.

The Fleur De Belgique was pretty damn hard, too, as they have a lot of hoppy pales on tap. But, ultimately, I was guided by the appearance combined with the hoppy nose.

Guessing two coffee stouts correctly, in order (with other options on tap!), was pretty tough, too. The mouthfeel and dryness of Autocrat stood out; White Electric was an educated guess by process of elimination after that.

My buddies got 1 of 4 and 2 of 4 correct. So, pretty fun! I highly recommend it. It will either be very humbling, or surprisingly affirmative of your palate's discretion.

Now, time for some music. It's not Horns Up Friday yet, so perhaps I'll ease my way into the heavier stuff today.

    Cheers!

Home time, and time to keep it going! This next brew comes courtesy as a shocking, fantastic extra from @klittle250: a damn fresh bottle of Pseudo Sue.

The first (and only other) time I had this, it was at a bottle share with @BadJustin. I remember not being blown away, but suitably impressed (hey, we had a lot of beer...and I puked in his bushes and slept in the backseat of my car, so all-in-all I'd say it was a great time).

But right now? Damn, it's drinking remarkably well, and I took the time to knock out a more formal review.

    Thanks K!
