Local restaurant had a Founders tap takeover today, and I learned two things: if you head to a good tap takeover (CBS and KBS) you have to show up early; don't bother going to a hyped good tap takeover. Lines were too long pre-opening, and we stopped by later to see the story, looked like the hyped beer was sold in taster sizes (unconfirmed). Was still to busy for us, so we headed up the street and found:

GF found random review said "as good as KBS", which made us chuckle since we'd just missed out. Not sure that's true or not, but it IS damn tasty. Good work again, Williamsburg Alewerks.

    into the light...with light

the fog has lifted (internally, from last night...and outside as well)

    so...starting "light" (ABV% wise)....one must pace...

    ..with an old classic

and listening to a classic..."light 'em up"

Man, I would love to have some of this. I am a descendant of John Alden and Priscilla Mullin (13th gen I think). Yes, sometimes I will buy a beer based on the label, so what?

Toured Brasserie Cantillon in Brussels earlier today. What a treat! The tour included 2 pours at the end.
Started with a single barrel one year lambic on cask, a nice prelude of what was to come. The lack of carbonation isolated some of the winelike characteristics of this beer really opening up the senses.
I followed that with the Lou Pepe Framboise. A beautiful, semi-sweet raspberry tartness followed by a distinctly dry crispness making this a champion of the style.
Next, we shared the Cuvee Florian (Zwanze 2014) after deciding to splurge (14 euro ) on a few special release bottles.
Finally, we delighted our senses with the 2012 Zwanze below. Couldn't get enough of this one. Such a clean, delicious funk that is completely unparalleled.

After Cantillon, we made out way to Beersel to visit Brouwerij Drie Fonteinen. Armand enthusiastically described what he had to offer at the shop and was the most gracious of hosts explaining his process and also going into some history of the brewery.
Before leaving with our loot, he told us that we must stop by the restaurant for a special treat. He had recently made available from his private cellar a very limited amount of Oude Geuze from 1997. He explained that this perfectly aged wonder would fetch nearly any asking price if sold online but he prefers to release a few at a time to those fortunate enough to visit his humble little brewery in Beersel.

Words cannot describe how incredible this beer was. I can only say that the whole experience was perhaps the greatest beer-related moment of my life.
Armand's nephew runs the restaurant and recommended that we try the young kriek on tap, the only instance of such a beer being offered on cask anywhere in the world. The beer was too young to bottle but would be offered at the restaurant only to showcase it's freshness before Armand decides the time is right to move that batch into bottles.

Back in Brussels now, I am enjoying an Orval before we head out to explore the city and it's beloved brews by night.

    Cheers BA!

It's different than KBS, but Cafe is super awesome. Not sure on the pricing now, but it used to go for about $8 a bomber which is insane.
