yah this is making me want to revisit the Valkyrie DIPA as well. Freshness factor could be a toss up though since they don't date their cans. It doesn't matter for the stout This is cellar worthy if you wanted too do it a year or maybe 2

Off Color Troublesome. My very first Gose. I think it's a style I will look into a little more. Very refreshing! In an odd way.

Da 2015 OG original. Always a treat.

Stabbing Westward. Much more successful than that other more obscure band, "Stabbing in no Particular Direction." The direction was key, you see.

Ending on a Prairie Bible Belt. LNBA 4lyfe. There was a time when I would've been happy with the Thunder firing their coach. I actually think he should been spared given the injuries this year. But given my lack of NBA consulting cash flow, you can take that for what it's worth:grinning:

Ha! And I thought I lived in the boonies! AK has an inherent remoteness to it to many, but I'm lucky enough to live only about 2~3 miles from my university. Keep your head up. From a fellow student to another.

Felt like having a beer before bed, so I pulled another bottle out of that Devil's Backbone collaboration variety pack I picked up last night...

I tried the Eight Point IPA from Devil's Backbone first, now it's time for the first of the collaborations: The Devil Went Down to Oregon, an Imperial Rye Ale from Devil's Backbone and Ninkasi. First rye beer I've ever had, and first beer from Ninkasi also (well, half from Ninkasi, I suppose. XD) Needless to say it's also the first "Imperial Rye Ale" I've had... or seen... or heard of.

And wow, that's a lot darker than I was expecting. Nice dark red-brown sort of thing. Having trouble figuring out what's going on in the smell (there is a smell there... not strong, but present... it's just difficult to figure out.) Sometimes the smell comes across as almost... salad-like, as weird as that sounds -- something leafy and veggie-ish, something bready, maybe the slightest spiciness. And it tastes... different than I was expecting, but good! Sort of a dark bready thing with this unusual taste mixed in that I can't quite place (might be from the rye, or maybe the yeast... it doesn't come across as a hoppy flavor.) I wouldn't have guessed this was 65 IBUs if not for it being clearly displayed on the label -- there is definitely a bit of a "leafy" hop flavor and bitterness in the aftertaste that hangs around afterward, but I'm not really tasting hops here aside from that. Kinda seems like the hops are present mostly to balance out what would otherwise be a very sweet beer (it has that "almost sticky" sort of feel to it like the SnowBlind doppelbock from Starr Hill, which was definitely on the sweeter side), only contributing a bit of flavor but mostly focusing on the bittering aspect.

Upon further drinking, I'd have to say that at least part of that flavor I couldn't quite identify is definitely the rye. It's starting to remind me a bit of some of the flavors present in rye bread. I'm actually... tasting? smelling? both at the same time?... something similar to rye bread when I exhale now that I've had half a glass of this. Which is not a bad thing at all for me, I really like rye bread. XD

This is a really interesting beer. Definitely not what I was expecting (I figured all of the collaboration beers fell a lot further on the "hoppy" side, since 3 of the 4 were some variation of IPA), but by sheer luck it's turning out to be exactly the sort of beer I felt like having when I pulled one out of the box -- I was unable to decide between a hoppy IPA-type beer or a purely malty dark beer, and then I picked an untried beer at random, knowing basically nothing about it except the information on the label (what is an "imperial rye ale," anyway?)... and ended up with a "dark brown, malty, but hopped enough that you notice" beer.

Definitely feeling like a "one and that's it" beer, though. I'm actually feeling like I'm getting full drinking this!

It's over in 2 weeks! I have an internship that should lead to a job. But there are some shifting winds ( very boring stuff ), so I just need to be a good manager of my time. The only people happier than me about this: My wife & kids. I'm just still little pissed that I got slotted into much harder classes that have less to do with my future career; but at least they worked with me or this would be dragging on another 6-10 months...

Next nearest program doing this stuff is up in Kansas City, so I will drive my happy ass to Tulsa singing a happy song, I reckon...
