Smokey, bitter, and roasty as all hell. Love the label on this one. A smoked India-style black ale. cheers all

I was lucky to have some sports to watch up until now... *...total fucking silence...* (Buscemi )
...Game of Thrones is also done... :slight_frown: Looking forward to True Detective; keeping up on Penny Dreadful and Hannibal though neither is blowing my mind. Me and the missus just finished watching Friends. Just started watching Lost.

I'm drinking Dark Horse's Smells Like a Safety Meeting tonight...

Today I learned what a "safety meeting" is :stuck_out_tongue: lol - I didn't know it was a thing - I thought it was just some nonsense to accompany the noses on the label  - anyway - I guess I can see where I would draw some parallels between this and marijuana's aromas - strong and pungent, with a resinous and piney character spiked by some dark citric pith... Really groovy beer in any event - a DIPA masquerading as an IPA - everything from the nose commutes to the tongue, plus a nice, dull sweetness... There's some "chewiness" to the "dankness" :grimacing: and the beer has some heft. Totally digging it...

Looks like a 4.9.15 bottling date...

You know it's Odin's Day, right?

    Odin!

Breaking out the Boulevard Lovechild#5. I need to wash this last beer out of my memory. Love Southern Tier & some "session IPAs" but this one landed with a thud for me...

A flight at Outer Light Brewing Company here in Groton, CT:

Left to Right: Admiral Lublin's Imperial Pilsner, The Academy German Pale Ale, Libation Propaganda Coffee Stout, and Royal Sea Lavender Saison.

The Imperial Pilsner is...an Imperial Pilsner. Really classic pils aroma; flavor is reminiscent of a traditional pils, but just bigger and more up front. It's interesting, but not really for me.

The Academy was quite nice. Toasty and grainy malts, with a touch of citrus and pine from the hops. Nothing too extreme; just a nice, easy to drink beer.

Libation Propaganda...just wow! I've never experienced a coffee beer this potent. The aroma smells nothing like beer; it smells like freshly ground coffee. The flavor matches: it's like chewing on a coffee bean. I'd love a little stout with my coffee next time, but this was really cool.

The lavender saison is also as advertised. The aroma is overwhelmingly floral. On the tongue, the lavender hits after a moment's delay, and keeps building through the sip, along with some dry spice. It lingers, too; I was tasting lavender through my next beer.

After a Lagunitas Sucks, I've settled on this for a nightcap:

    DFH Burton Baton

Bottled in September 2013, this baby has nearly two years of age on it, and it's now a completely different beast. The old ale component is front and center. There's some oxidation, and the tasting notes are mostly oak, caramel, and even a touch of chocolate. Bitter without associated hop flavors.

"Haha, age a DIPA and you get a barleywine!" Yeah, funny.....until you try this one. Because, wow, it reminds me of aged Bigfoot.

I still recommend it fresh; the oak adds such a mellow smoothness to the DIPA character.

    Cheers, BAs!

The Bay doesn't need any healing BTW. A Giants dynasty and the Warriors last night...if anything, LA needs some healing!
