British and Belgian ales, London and Amsterdam 1971. Home brew 1970s. Sierra Nevada and Anchor early 1980s. And of course, Petes.
My first step into Beer was brought to you by De Landtsheer's Malheur 12. That was the first moment when I realized a 12% brew could be both flavorful and devilishly drinkable for it's high ABV. I still love that brew even though I haven't seen it in a few years.
I had always thought "what a weird name for a beer, Two-Hearted" as I downed Coors Light after Coors Light. Then I decided to give it a go at BW-3's. That is still to this day one of my top 5 all-time favorites.
for me it was New Belgium Sunshine Wheat in the bomber bottle in 1992 they only made bombers way back then in the dark ages......yeah i am old as dirt
the other one around that same time was Pete's Wicked Winter ale
Really I can't remember at this point. Perhaps it was vacation in Ireland and trying Guinness from the source. Not really "craft" but it did open my eyes to more. Then, being around Maryland, Flying dog is easy to come by. I think I just bought some bottles not knowing what it was. Honestly though, I'm drawing blanks for the absolute first and reason.
Corsendonk Pater was the first beer I really remember blowing me away. Never thought a beer could taste like raisins, and that I would like it. That was in the late 90's. Highland Gaelic Ale was also an eye opener.
Blue Meth by Walter White. Really got me hooked.
Sierra Nevada Porter and Sweetwater 420 changed my world.

I'm a new craft beer enthusiast who only used to drink budlight and get drunk on the weekends but now I'm a drunk who gets drunk on craft beers. What first got me into craft beer was Not Your Father's Root beer, I was amazed at what craft brewery's were starting to do and how much easier it was to get a real beer.
It was Pete's Wicked Ale for me, too. Back around 1992 or so. A friend (can't remember who) told me I should try it and I tracked down a place that had it but was not that convenient. But I'd go get a six pack every couple weeks. Took me quite awhile before discovering any other brands...

It would have to be Not Your Father's Root Beer and Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. I didn't want to end up like everyone else around my area that drinks nothing but Bud Light.
Not to brag about my age or anything, but being young right now has meant that I've never really lived in a world without craft beer being common. Some of my very first beers ever were from Flying Dog and Devil's Backbone, so I'd have to say that those two breweries get the credit for keeping me oriented towards good beer rather than taking the dark path towards something lite.
Boulevard Pale Ale
Got me into as in made clear for me beer could be good, or got me into it as a hobby?
The former was, I think, Sam Adams Boston Lager. Around 1986 I guess. I had tried Guiness, but it was more SABL that convinced me that I could enjoy beer.
But I remained mostly a wine drinker. It was the escalating price of decent wines, and the discovery of my local craft beer scene, that made me a (craft) beer fan.
I'm another from the 90's with Sam Adams and Pete's Wicked.
I was living in Battle Creek when Arcadia started up. I used to go for pints quite a bit.
Fat Tire, Sunshine Wheat, and Blue Moon.
Beers from Goose Island and Pete's Wicked were my go-to brews in the '90s.
Spring of 1996: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

2. Golden Monkey
3. Various Sierra Nevada brews
For me, probably Flying Dog Raging Bitch.
Orval Trappist Ale. I'd had craft beer before but Orval was mind-blowing.

My first six was Lowenbrau and it tasted good, beer of extravagance was Dinkel Acker Dark and I still drank on a budget many years ago.....as did we all. Had one of the SA Boston Lager when first came out.
Troegs Mad Elf, one of my roommate's at Penn State would bring a case every december after thanksgiving break from the original brewery in Harrisburgh. He treated it like it was the holy grail, one night he gave me a bottle and although it was wildly potent, it immediately opened my eyes to what beer could be. Cheers!

Good one. Back in the day it was Pete's, Anchor and Gordon Biersch 'round these parts. Another one that seemed cool (and is long gone) was Saint Stan's out of Modesto, I think.

I can't say there was one particular beer that got me into craft but I would say that Guinness Extra Stout got me into good beer. I eventually tried Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout, Redhook ESB, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and neither really led me to craft beer. It was more of working in the business and seeing all the different craft beers that led to me expand and explore more craft beers.
