probably reiterated it 3 or 4 years back but the conversation originated 6 or 7+ years back with me pointing out Elijah Craig was gonna lose its age statements. when i warned Wild Turkey was gonna start reducing it's products to 81 proof, the church revolted altogether. lol. pretty sure Levitation & some of those dudes that participated in the exchanges (then) have been off of BA 5+ years.

I remember back in 2013 when Makers tried to reduce the proof from 90 to 84 and the congregation grabbed their pitchforks and torches. My cousin actually grabbed a 375 of the lowered edition when we were in WY.

yep. in reaction to that, i remember Julian VanWinkle said something to the effect his grandfather ("Pappy") must be rolling around or turning somersaults in his grave.

With that being said I've heard that pappy is going to all 50ml platform.

And not sure why he would say that, was he a big makers mark fan?

Well, he helped them get started by giving them the recipe, a supply of grain, his own yeast strain and sent a Master Distiller down to Loreto to teach them how to distill a wheat recipe Bourbon. For consumption purposes though he preferred his own.

This is the first bottle of bourbon purchased for home consumption. I am more of a Scotch and Rye person, but I want to define my bourbon preferences so I’m trying some new ones.

    Evening fellas!

My dad went down to Texas for a bit and grabbed me 2 random (recommended by the store). The first bottle I thought was pretty good. This bottle however, I’m not sold on. It’s smooth, but lacks any thing that really stands out to make me buy a bottle for myself.

The oak spiral that rests in the bottle I’m sure is more “gimmick” than anything but I’m more than appreciate and more than willing to try it!

    Cheers all!

Lovingly handcrafted with Maker's 46, homemade mint-infused syrup, and fresh Greek mint from my back yard. I have a muddler, but no cocktail spoon. I stirred this with a chopstick.

    Edit: Damn, this is good!

The oak spiral is certainly a marketing ploy, but the idea of putting real wood in a bottle of whisky isn't new.

I can't say how well it works because I've not tried it myself. But if Ralfy's doing it, it must do something. He knows his stuff, and his recommendations and advice have helped me learn a ton about whisky.

Here's hoping that bottle improves as you get into it!

I inadvertently dribbled some of this on the stovetop as I was pouring it. In addition to its properties as a curative elixir, it also serves as an amazingly effective cleaning fluid. (Disclaimer: these statements have been evaluated by neither the FDA nor Good Housekeeping.) Cheers!

Glad you like it. Ralfy is awesome. He can be a bit stodgy and preachy, but if you watch enough of his stuff you'll see he doesn't take himself that seriously. When I have any doubt about a single malt, he's my top resource for learning what's what.

And when his brother Big Clive shows up, it's typically hilarious:

Let us know how that bottle of Oak & Eden progresses.

    Cheers!
