Question Have a store that has it bourbon on 5 shelf's against open windows, that are southern facing, lots of light and heat in the summer. How bad is that for the back bottles? They have Old Forrester,Eagle Rare ,Henry McKenna Elijah Craig 12YO Cask to name a few.

I didn’t realize how close our cabin was to there this week until I drove by it on the way home. Just a few miles off I64, and probably a 45 minute drive from me all week. I would have stopped for samples, but they weren’t open till 2. Just saw we are getting distro in a few weeks though.

sorry no pic but 5 bourbons I been loving lately are Wild Turkey Single Barrel, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Four Roses Single Barrel, Evan Williams Single Barrel, and Elijah Craig Small Batch Barrel Proof.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed is only whiskey I water down with an ice cube as I usually like my bourbon neat but rare breed neat is just a little too hot. Adding an ice cube I get a lot of creamy vanilla custard with some oaky hints of maple that pairs well with a Rocky Patel Sun grown Maduro cigar.

Wild Turkey Single Barrel perhaps my favorite single barrel bourbon as I get a lot of maple vanilla with oaky wood and dark fruit and has got to be the smoothest whisky I ever had and needs not to be paired or mixed.

Evan Williams single Barrel falls a bit short from the Wild Turkey SB but at half the price it's almost the better buy although I did pay $25 for my Wild Turkey so it's actually cheaper. Anyway I never like Evan Williams and almost never bought this because of that but the single barrel? My God this is delicious! I get a lot of black cherry, caramel toffee, leather, and oak and bit more harsh than the Wild Turkey yet still very smooth for a $30 single barrel bourbon that is finishing too quick that I want to buy 2 more and want to do that before a price hike hits as is the trend with whiskey these days. Also feel it needs not be mixed or paired as it's that good.

Four Roses Single Barrel I get a lot of cigar tobacco, oak, and dark fruit that it is the perfect cigar companion especially goes well with Oliva V and really only like it with a cigar.

Now probably my all time favorite so far is Elijah Craig Small Batch Barrel Proof as it is very drinkable even at its high proof, actually smoother than rare breed yet higher proof. I get a lot of hot cinnamon upfront with hints of cherry, citrus, oak wood, caramel, toffee, tobacco, with a long lingering finish that warms the throat. Love this stuff! But hey anyway cheers!

Figured I'd put this one here (corn whiskey alert!:open_mouth::open_mouth::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:):

My first Balcones and first corn whiskey.

Very good, but, man, is it different. Has a sulphury/buttery nose like a sherry-cask single malt scotch. The flavor is much more spicy than I anticipated (considering rye is supposedly the spicy ingredient). As it opens up, though, it gets very sweet ... almost tastes like maple syrup spiked with cinammon or ginger or something.

    Cheers!

    Drinking Hillrock bourbon...
Fancied up a bit up front with a dash of orange bitters and a maraschino cherry... But at this point, it's just getting topped with more bourbon - prolly gonna throw another cherry in there (I like to eat 'em when the drinking session is over... lol)...

    VOD in my ears...

This was my current whiskey sitch...
    See the problem?
    My potions are low!

So today I picked up the next wave...
Whistlepig is one of the priciest on the shelf at Total Wine here on LI ($74), but I made the mistake of trying it first and loving it - but I'm gonna test the waters with a surefire hit, High West's Rendezvous Rye ($56)... I've had the Woodford Reserve ($32) before so I know it's solid... Finally, after having the Monkey Shoulder Scotch (none on the shelf, BTW), I said I hadda revisit JWB ($35) - the only screw cap outta the six whiskies - just to see how it compares - and now I will be...

    Cheers...

    Aw, go ahead.

    Why Motel 6?
    1) I never have any problem with getting a reservation.
    2) When you travel with dogs, you don't have a ton of options.
    3) It's cheap. (Should probably be number one, now that I think about it.)
    4) I can usually back right up to the door and unload my stuff.
    5) There's a cheap greasy-spoon diner next door.
    6) No need to keep track of reward points.
    7) Their TV channel lineup is better than mine.

As a big Beam mash fan boy, I enjoy it, but can’t justify the price when I can buy Knob for $20 less, step it up to barrel proof for the same price, or just drop an extra $20 and get Bookers. The proof level has its place. I just think they messed up the price point.
