As you may have heard on the recent hangout I did with Sam Calagione, Extreme Beer Fest is back (in-person) and headed to the San Francisco Bay Area on August 26 & 27!

This will be the 20th version of Extreme Beer Fest, 19th annual, and once again sponsored by our friends at Dogfish Head for the 15th time! We've hosted 17 in Boston, one in Los Angeles, and one in Cyberspace. Stoked to be taking #20 to the Bay Area!

    Much more to follow.

In the meantime, I've already got a solid list of brewers ready to invite, but I'm always looking for new blood. So, what breweries (that push the boundaries of brewing through creativity, fun, and innovation) should we invite? Note: They don't need to be from the San Francisco Bay Area, but I do plan on inviting some extreme beer brewers from NorCal.

Looking forward to seeing thousands of you in the Bay Area, and thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    Cheers! :fire::beers::heavymetal:

Don't know and don't really care. I'm sure no matter who's there it will be outstanding, and I'll definitely be there!

Oh OK, HOTD should definitely be there.

    Oh wait...

Epic Brewing, Salt Lake City - drag those Big Bad Baptists into the conversation!

Avery Brewing deserves a spot too!

Different: Burns Family Artisan Ales (look it up.,.)

Humboldt Regeneration. Jacob has brewed several beers that were composed of ingredients sourced entirely from one county. Pretty extreme!

If it’s in the Bay Area would be interested in attending.
Wondrous, SARA, Cellarmaker, RR, Urban Roots, moksa, Slice, and TDNE would be the obvious choices.

    Great Notion?

Outlander is a tiny place in the Seattle area that does a lot of weird stuff. They made an unbelievable nacho beer once, they have a sauerkraut beer...

Alvarado street has been making some killer massive stouts lately, I think they would fit the extreme part easily.
Hopeless devotion, scrape, skokade paradise, and naturally aspirated have all been excellent!

As long as Epic does not bring any of their infected beers.

    +1 on Monksa and Cellarmaker

+1 on Modern times, if they can get their act together.

For local breweries that have not been mentioned (but should be):
    - Laughing Monk (good Belgians & porters/stouts)
    - Speakeasy/Hunters Point Brewing (minority owned & making some good brews. Some of their barrel aged have been whales of mine)
    - Ghost Town Brewing (their Rye wine was amazeballs)
    - Alpha Acid (the Barrel Constrictor series FTW)
    - Drake's Brewing Company (Santas Brass, Drakonic, Headzo, and most of their barrel aged beers are FTW)
    - Almanac Beer Company (the sours, their barleywines, just yes)
    - Humble Sea Brewing Company (Sure they are in Santa Cruz & not “SF Bay Area” but close enough. Their adventures into other styles you do not typically see, and their execution should be a clincher to have them included)
    - Moylan's Brewery
    - Narrative Fermentations
    - Clandestine

For other California breweries that have not been mentioned:
    - North Coast Brewing (barleywines are the hawtness, and is life)
    - Engren (that barrel aged lager - WOWZAS)
    - Tioga Sequoia

    - Eel River Brewing Company (their anniversary ales are FTW. No longer have distro to the bay area (that I can find) sadly)
    - Track 7 Brewing Company
    - Firestone Walker Brewing Company
    - Mother Earth Brewing Company (another that distro has stopped to the bay area)
    - Alvarado Street Brewery
    - New Glory Craft Brewery

For breweries outside of The SF bay area that are doing big beers and I would LOVE to see at an event like this in the SF bay (and you typically can not get their beers locally but for Tavour):
    - Great Basin Brewing
    - Southern Tier Brewing Company
    - Southern Grist Brewing Company
    - Avery
    - Cycle Brewing Company in Florida
    - Drekker
    - Urban Artifact
    - Anchorage
    - River North
    - Fremont
    - Evil Twin
    - Against The Grain
    - 3 Floyds
    - Adroit Theory
    - Pelican Brewing
    - WeldWerks Brewing
    - Full Sail Brewing Company (made one of my top 5 rated beers ever)

It was great to hear the conversation on the stream about having NA beers at the event. They have definitely evolved and gotten better in the last few years. In my dry January I found a couple that were up to par/snuff to any other brew out there. I myself enjoy working on that untappd badge, as well as trying out the NA selections out there.

As a local, I would love to see bringing in some of those local breweries for the folks coming into town for the event – good exposure, and out of towners get to see/taste what we get to experience beyond Russian River & other hyped breweries. Though as a local, I hope Todd & the Extreme Beer Fest team are able to bring in some of those breweries that the SF Bay Area is normally (or not recently) been able to get locally. I am looking forward to the event, and hope we can attend (with scheduling & pandemic concerns in consideration). I hope EBF will be held outdoors at least?

Another thought... our neighbors to the north.
Nebuleus, HOTD, Ale Apothecary, de garde, Holy Mountain, Floodland & Upright.
They all make solid beer, but more importantly all tend to experiment with ingredients and styles that might be considered “extreme.”

They actually opened a second location in Pacifica, so they are now sf Bay Area lol

sante adarius is opening a location in Oakland so they are sf Bay Area too

Have to also mention Private Press

Crooked Stave has had some 4-5 year long aged stouts that have been incredible, seems pretty extreme to me

    Horus

    Pure Project

    Xul from Knoxville

As a bay area local, it would be cool to see some stuff we can't get around here. I'd love to see some big beers from the northeast, like Other Half, NEBCO, Industrial Arts, or a crazy sour from Plan Bee. As far as NorCal, don't forget the old favorites who are still independent, like Anderson Valley, North Coast, and SN.

None of the chill, unhypebruh breweries from around here. Please load it up with the Murkmeisters that the cool kids lust for.

    Is Murk even XTREMEZ! anymore?
